USS Iowa, BB-61, the lead ship for the Iowa class battleships, passes under the Golden Gate Bridge on her final voyage, from the reserve fleet off Point Richmond to a new life as a museum ship in San Pedro.Taken earlier this afternoon, from Land's End, San Francisco.

The Golden Gate's 75th was today! (now actually yesterday by now, I guess.) I stayed away cause I figured traffic would be terrible, and consequently missed the Nimitz come in. Gonna try to see it tomorrow, if I can find out where it's being berthed.

Damn yeah I missed the Nimitz. I actually found out right as I got home from watching teh fireworks. Turned on the news and immediately it was "...and the U.S.S Nimitz..." if I had only known...

It's out in the middle of the bay right now... you can see it from about Pier 28 or so, near the ballpark, but without a boat there's no getting close. The USS Decatur is moored right on the pier.
