Description Ms.Button is a girl with a poetic mind. Stemming from a family of renowned and prestigious witches, the world expected her to follow in her father's footsteps, and become the greatest mage of her generation. But when Ms.Button fancied spell writing in the absence of any magical talent whatsoever, people quickly lost interest in her, condemning her before her career as a poet or spell-writer even began.
Unable to even make a broom sweep on it's own, she was expelled from the expensive academy her father had paid for, and sent to live with her grandfather, another world renowned magician, to study under his tutelage. Her grandfather did not look kindly at his granddaughter's minimal magical ability, often leaving her with mounds of books about technique and discipline while he was out of town on business. While studying alone, in the old creaking manor, Ms.Button began to notice odd things. Mishaps such as whispering in the walls, claw marks on the wooden banister, and the strange urge to go up to the attic, for which there was none to be seen.
She studied with all her might, and with all the power she could muster, she casted out a simple searching spell, whispering reverently-
"Attic!"
A thin cord of light, tangled, and twisted, but still very much so there, shot out from her hand, and she chased it up three flights of stairs to the very top floor, where the cord disappeared into a decorative ceiling tile in the center of the room. She grabbed the nearest chair, stacking a few books on top to be safe before climbing up and pushing on the tile, smiling when it slid easily out of the way.
Without fear, she grasped onto the edge of the entrance, pulling herself into the pitch black space above her before shining a light into the far corner.
There, alone in the darkness, she would find an old wooden chest.
A chest laden with claw marks, and broken protective seals.
With shaky hands, she opened the box to find-
A doll. A doll, one old wax sealed envelope, and two sharp fingered gloves.
Compelled by the whispering she had been hearing for weeks, she placed the gloves onto her hands, eyes widening when they laced themselves up tightly, finding it difficult, nearly impossible, to remove them.
She turned her attention then, to the doll.
The doll with it's gleaming onyx black eyes, seemed to be smiling at her, like she was an old friend.
She found herself smiling back.
She held the doll in her lap, reaching then for the envelope at the bottom of the box, and discovering through the old parchment, that her new friends had been left here by her great, great, great, great grandmother.
She skimmed over several warnings in the letter before finding what she was looking for;

Detailed descriptions about each of the items she had procured. All in her long gone relative's faded scrawl:

'Possessive gloves: These gloves are tricky things indeed! Embedded with two onyx hearts crossed through the middle, they latch onto a host, and refuse to let go! This talisman is dangerous, and allows the magical user to reach into items, and project their soul and voice through them, leaving the body of the magician blank and empty while in use. '

Ms.Button shrugged the warning off, after all, the gloves weren't hurting her. They just seemed... lonely.
She read on, confused by the next two descriptions:

'Dolly: A possessed puppet with the soul of what appears to be a young witch woman inside of it. This piece of wayward stage equipment may appear harmless at first glance, but do not be fooled, as demons often take the form of things of innocence to trick you, and lure you into their traps. This Doll may never have caused harm, but it is still not to be played with lightly, and is secured for your protection. Do not trust it.

Dolli: A possessed puppet that does not hide it's true intentions. Although identical to the last, this doll is far more hazardous. This doll wants chaos, and it does not understand human emotion. This doll wants to tear things apart, and this doll is most certainly a demon. This puppet is not to be allowed free at any cost as she will cause harm, and is known to do so with glee. Fondly I have nicknamed her the evil twin, but she may just be the honest one.'

Ms.Button looked at the doll in her lap, smiling.
"I wonder... which one you are Doll?"
The Doll only smiled.

The rest of the page appeared to be more warnings, so Ms.Button tossed them back into the trunk before closing the lid and making her way back down to the storage room, replacing the ceiling tile, and taking her finds back to her room.
It was there she placed the doll onto her hand...
The two had been inseparable ever since.

Now, passing through any city, it is common to find posters for the ever popular Button and Doll magical ventriloquist show.
Complete with new, groundbreaking spells, beautiful magic, and two uncanny lookalikes, their show is mystifying humerus, and dark.
The fans, taking inspiration from the onyx hearts on her gloves, and her intriguing name, came up with the simple design of a button heart crossed with it's own strings to show their support to the lovely magician.
It goes without saying that the fans were ecstatic when one cold night Ms.Button came on stage with a heart of her own, sewed onto her dress just above her own heart, all amused when discovering Doll supported one of her own.
And the aw in the crowd when the lights dimmed, and the dummy opened it's mouth like it did at the start of every show to announce-

"Many cannot tell where the act ends or where the act starts,
But you'll sure feel the magic, to this we cross our hearts,
For if you see Ms.Button, with her cold doll eyes,
And her faithful companion always right by her side...
Then we promise you dear, you are in for a show!
Without further adieu, Button and Doll say Hello!"
