In answer to query as to "what happened to the little baby"...

"To cut a long story short...she was one of about 18 or more babies that her stray-cat mum birthed on our roof over the course of about two years (the mum was too street-wise for us to trap and spay). This strange mum would abandon her babies after a few weeks. They were all too young to be able to find their way down to ground level and would surely die there on the hot roof. We had no choice but to crawl out onto the roof through a open window and rescue them (one litter she left in the rain-gutter was even washed down the drain-pipe! luckily we managed to save them).

Our apartment was a small one in town, and we already had 6 kitties, so we couldn't take them in. They were free-roaming in the daytime, with access to the backstairs that led to the backalley; we gathered them in the evenings and they were locked in our small kitchen for the night. We lost half of them...to car accidents, and evil nasty cat-haters. She was one such casualty.

After crying copious tears over their loss, we decided we had to get a place with a garden where they can roam safely...and that's how we ended up in our present place about 13 years ago."

" ... When Muttface here didn't come home, we went searching for her and found her in a little patch of grass and plants by the road. There were no visible signs of injuries, so we don't think it was due to a traffic accident. We didn't want to do an autopsy to find out the reason for the death ... it wouldn't have brought her back to life, and it wouldn't have make any difference then. Copy, her sister ... ... we found injured ... the vet found massive internal bleeding in her abdomen, and suspected it could have been a kick to her belly that did it. She didn't make it."

"There is no understanding the evil that would want to hurt children and animals .... In every city, in every nation, there is such evil. It makes me want to have super-powers, so that I can punish these people. I heard from a Malay friend, that the Malay ethnic people have this belief ... that the good deeds you do unto a cat will be repaid five-fold on judgement day; and similarly, the evil deeds will be returned five-fold. I want to believe that, for I want these evil people to suffer!

We will always regret not moving earlier, but it takes time to hunt for a suitable place that can accomodate so many cats, and mostly, to sort out the finances required."

Update 14 July 2012 : There are still 7 surviving ones from these siblings, and they are all ancients aged 16/17 years old. One of them is weakening fast, and we don't expect him to be with us for much longer. That's the way it goes ... they live and they die ... and life goes on. All we can do, in the time given to us, is to look after them the best we can, and hopefully, make the right decisions along the way.
Update 19 December 2013 : Today, we said goodbye to the last of these siblings, 18-year-old Saddles. A pic of the three calico sisters, Muttface, Copy, and Saddles ...
