the stars,
serving as messengers;
small beacons lit ablaze
from me to you.
far too often
i become lost within the notion
that space is a vacuum
and you and i
are trapped somewhere
within the void surrounding us.

but there is a light
which shines within the
darkness.
there is a hope
in each conspiratorial wink
the celestial sky administers.
calling to mind
that you and i
behold the same heavens
hanging high above us.
that you and i
might live in shadows,
but there is yet a light.

the fickle moon,
which waxes and wanes
as capricious as the tides
it influences,
does not rule the night
we reside within.
instead, i look to the stars,
asking them to shine for you
in their everlasting splendor.

reminding you there is a man
who longs to be
as close as night
to you, my dear.
and reminding me there is a woman
who yet keeps watch
over my soul
somewhere beyond the sights
my eyes behold.
