Description Look at this beautiful mess, the contrast between this and the Icarosaurus from yesterday cracks me up.

after unsuccessfuly trying to get directly to the reference points I decided to try and find a line towards which I'm going to fold the bottom corner as shown and that's how I get the reference folds I need in order to fold the model.

I am going to use reference finder to tell me how to get to the line I'm going to be folding towards.

The weird thing about this animal is that it was quite lanky, but with short legs, so even though I had extra pleats in the front legs, the wing always fell just a smidge too short, so I had to do this funky thing with the hindlegs to free up valuable space in the wing corners.

Continuing the lanky theme, the tail was extremely long, longer than the animal's wingspan, and we are talking about a creature with relatively long wings to begin with. That meant that once again, in combination with the short hindleg meant that the hindleg nests entirely in the interior of the square, with bits of the tail pleats squeezing themselves between the far edge of the hindleg flap and the edge of the paper. Thankfully this means that there's going to be enough paper in the wings.

I could have technically achieved a similar effect by just extending the wings naturally and just bite the bullet and tolerate the extra layers in the front legs and the head, but I didn't want to do that because that would be lazy and inefficient and if nothing else, I feel like the little kink in the hindlegs adds a little pizzaz to the crease pattern and makes it look less boring overall.

The proportions of this beastie have forced me to introduce quite a bit of unexpected complexity into the model and completing this crease pattern definitely was much more of a challenge than I thought it was going to be.

I only hope that the finished model ends up looking lifelike enough to make me feel like all this effort was worth it.

I'm definitely going to fold the Icarosaurus first though, just to ease myself into things.
