Description
Another day, another job.Concept of sci fi rifle - Vulcan. I designed it as pair for pistol I did earlier. ([link] ) To make contrast, rifle body is made of plastic. Whole collection is meant to be from future but not too futuristic. To keep it believable I used standart scope. While pistol is rough rifle look is clean, shiny and polished.
There are more pictures of this project in my gallery:
Main picture: [link]
Armory picture: [link]
Details picture: [link]
and this time I did also flash movie: [link]
Technical facts: Concepting, modeling and rendering is mine. Model is completely highpoly. I used 3ds max and render engine is v-ray. I tried for "clean" look. Model is based only on various dark materials and shadows. In this concept I did not use textures of material at all.
I'm available for freelance job. I prefer mechanical to organic objects.
Hope you like and tnx for comments if any.
Bye.

this is a very fair idea, well balanced, and certainly easy to hold looking at the schematics. would steer clear of ambidextrous bit, it is cheaper to use non ambi products than ambi ones, as the special provisions provided are cumbersome and add to the cost of the weapon by a considerable amount, the sight is placed very awkwardly, which would mean the weapon is badly placed for snipering, or even targeting in any normal way, removing this and placing a standard iron system of sights would be a darn sight more easy to use than a cumbersome scope. trust me, i know. having been trained to fire this sort of weapon, i know how awkward the placing of a scope can be, this would maybe benefit from a laser sight more. not sure how the weapon is reloaded, though. that needs to be a little clearer to make it obvious to even the most simple minded user. i tend to find the simpler the weapon, the better it is at being picked up by just about anyone and used. in combat, that is essential. also, when using such a weapon, i would recommend that the shoulder brace, or stock be more rounded to accept the ball and socket joint of the shoulder. remember, every weapon has a kick, no matter how small. overall, i think an excellent design. a few tweaks here and there, and an even better one will emerge. thanks for sharing. dave.

This thing looks truly amazing. I mean, I've seen a couple other designs before and they've had the same integration of the apparently popular thumb hole, but this is one of the better ones, although it does look like a bit of a stretch. And I am very thankful for the ambidextrous fire selector. That is usually where any lacking bits start. I am rather curious about two things, though, such as where the magazine is located and where the cocking mechanism is, unless it's the bar with the small circle in it.
The only thing I'm not a fan over is the placement of the scope and the way it looks like a current use scope on a futuristic weapon. On the placement, I just cant see how one man is supposed to grip the gun, shoulder it, look down the scope, and hold it up.
But, itty bitty idiosyncrasies aside, this is most defiantly a weapon that I would disparately dive for should the world become glass under an alien attack.

Honestly I really prefer this kind of handle (with thumb hole). I have no any experience how comfortable is it to hold it but from my viewpoint of 3d designer has big advantage. It keeps line of surface much better then standard handle. I mean I look at this clearly as 3d designer. In most cases when I use usual handle it looks like "rod stick in body". I hope you know what I mean.
And big tnx for large critiques you gave me several times, mate.
bye.

Me and my classmates were wondering. How do you hold it? Looking at the lowest picture I can imagine your thumb going in the left big hole, your index finger in the smal hole on the left and the remaining fingers on the lower grip. I see a trigger in the small hole on the left, thats what I base my observaion on. If this is correct I would make the grip to look more grip like. ([link] ) Would you place the left back side against your shoulder?
If this gun would be displayed without a scope, I would probably (without in game context) read it as a spaceship. I think changing the grip would make it communicate better.
Hope this was helpful!

hi , pretty good and accurate designs, did you try to send your design to sony entertainment online? i think they should stick with some of their games, mostly planetside 2 ( who lacks of good weapon design , looks like some nerf toys ... )

Ah, noticed a few mistakes here...
There are no iron sights whatsoever, which becomes a big fat problem.
There is also the question of the bottom rail. It seems a bit bulky if I stuck even a laser attachment at the bottom...

laser and light are welded at the front mask. At the bottom - there is only such a surface to keep hand at the place.

Both easy on the eyes and functional looking.
I could see myself firing one of those for extended periods.

Absolutely fantastic job. I'd love to integrate it into the science-fiction story project I am currently working on with a friend (it's German, unfortunately, so I'd rather not host it here ). Looking forward to further projects.
If you feel like it, my project could need a lot of guns like that!

Great like always, other than by the HTEC or the DEWI models you deside to give no special material to the grip - but that makes it look a little "empy" there. The head is damn great design, the back is maybe a little smal and suggests little or no recoil. I dont see any ammo-concept, if itΒ΄s a energy-weapon i would cheer for a hint for it^^
So - thx again for another great job!

Nicely done. I like the quality of the render and it's a good studio kind of setup. The more I focus on the entire object itself the more I pick up on the smaller details as well, which is exactly what you want to root something in reality. Nice lines, super smooth, great work. I may have to fully critique this later.
