Description
I have so many questions about what tail wax is, where you get it, and what you do with it.

Don't change everyone back, Zia! This is way more interesting!
...
Then again, with what I've seen of her work ethic, we probably don't have anything to worry about.

Relax. She's better-written than that. Read the longer response I gave to GoldGecko on a very similar comment on this comic.

But a Mary Sue/Gary Stu is not just the author stand-in/avatar in a story.ย A Mary Sue/Gary Stu is also a character who is OP for no good reason in their own universe strictly because the writer needs them to be.ย In other words, "A is B because it's in the script, not because it makes sense within the context of that world".
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Sue
Now, Zia accidentally setting this thing off across the world is one thing; a brilliant-but-clumsy scientist character can work.ย #AsuraMasterRace ย But to have her then also be the one who casually-yet-deliberately did this and then shrugs it off as if it's nothing is where I draw the line.

Nah, she didn't cause it.ย She's just on a team โ one of many teams at many universities โ studying it.ย People really should read the newspaper more.
And she's not "OP" either:ย She's very, very smart, but still realistically so.ย 192 IQ is high, but there are IQs of people alive today in the 200s.ย Also she's a flake, and terrible on follow-through:ย So smart or not, the odds of her accomplishing anything useful with those smarts โ other than annoying the heck out of everyone she knows โ are pretty low.ย Which finally gets to one of the main reasons I gave her smarts:ย Smart-but-lazy-and-flaky-goofball makes her a perfect character foil for the hard-working-and-average-and-square Chloe.ย There needed to be a good reason she could come up with so many ridiculous pranks so quickly, and that was it.ย There'll likely be other places her smarts get used โ I have some thoughts on that in the broader plot โ but mostly they're so she can cause trouble and be the highly-annoying little twerp we all know-and-love.

Aren't you afraid that Zia will become a Mary Sue?
๐: 0 โฉ: 3
phantom-inker In reply to GoldGecko [2019-09-22 19:09:54 +0000 UTC]
"Mary Sue" would imply I'd want to be near Zia or even be Zia, and I'm quite happy existing in a completely different universe from hers:ย She's a lot of fun to write, but she'd be a nightmare to know in person.ย I originally designed her just to be a good character foil for the uptight, staid, introverted Chloe (see also: Neil Simon's The Odd Couple), but she's managed to outgrow her original role in interesting ways.ย Both Zia and Chloe have some traits in common with me โ since one writes what one knows โ but neither one is a self-insert, nor intended to be.ย And Zia's very, very smart, but she's not a super-being:ย A 192 IQ may put her easily in the Mensa crowd, but it's still below the IQs of many well-known living people, including Marilyn Vos Savant and Garry Kasparov.
Also, "knows all the answers" is a pretty relative statement:ย There's a big difference between knowing how to solve complex problems in theoretical physics and, say, even changing a car tire.ย (See also: all ten seasons of the Big Bang Theory.)

Geez man, wasn't meant for it to be taken that seriously.
Could just have said "Nah, don't worry about it bro"
(But I thought people hated the BBT?)

*shrug*ย We liked it.ย My wife has a lot in common with Penny, and I have a lot in common with Leonard ( โ er, computer science, not physics, but close enough), so it worked for us.ย (I have colleagues that have accused me of being more Sheldon than Leonard, but I can operate a hammer, a power saw, a bicycle, and a water ski, so I'll defy that claim to my dying breath!)

GoldGecko In reply to phantom-inker [2019-09-22 19:48:14 +0000 UTC]
Eh, I think people's real issue with the show that it's seemingly an onlook into the lives of "geek and nerds", but it presents Penny as the 'common man', while the audience are supposed to laugh at the nerds, not with them.
Also this is starting to getting into a lengthy Info-dump from your characters, is it done soon?

This story arc will end soon.ย There's not a lot left, but it will need a few more comics to finish properly.

The next one is potentially skippable (but I think it's funny, and it's my comic, so I'm including it ), but the last four are really needed to end the story arc.ย Either way, it'll be done soon, and we can then move on to the next round of lunacy!

Honestly, "is technically capable of solving everything but refuses to for characterization-related reasons" is the usual case for keeping an overpowered character from becoming one of those. Worked for God and Superman...

Genius only gets you so far.ย Zia's 192 IQ is still less than Einstein's:ย He spent half of his life trying to solve the problem of quantum gravity, and to date, it's still never been solved (superstring theory is a possible candidate, but only one of many).

The rest of the lab is doing the latter but... actually, I guess it depends on what she sees as screwing over her sister harder.
*scene pops in*
Nia: So, cool story, I decided to actually read the book you use as an excuse to be horrible people, and it's pretty clear that I'm the only one in this family who did. Seriously, lemme show you what angels are supposedย to look like! *zappy*

I was talking about Zia's actual sister. The one with the wings. Or whatever that relation was, I forget the specifics.

What else do you think?ย She rubs it on her tail and massages it.ย Look at her tail when she says this.ย
If she knew all the answers I think something would already have been done and this conversation would be redundant.ย
