Animating is a lot of work.
It could take an hour to animate a couple seconds.

Unfortunately, I won't have enough time for commissions, as I am working on character animation for an indie fighting game.

"Finishing Blow"? So there's not enough memory to fill up that last slot?

What makes you think I didn't put anything there because of "memory issues"?

Ah, never mind then. I thought the current roster already took up most of the memory.

I really don't want to sound like a dick, but I find it impressive that people are willing to pay you money for tidbits of Flash animation (kinda as if you got paid to create walk cycles of characters, even though the walk cycles themselves would never be used for anything greater like an animated short story or an indie videogame.) But who am I to judge people? It makes them happy and you make some money, so why not.

People pay money for all sorts of weirdass crap on this site, and typically for their own enjoyment. I remember this one artist who used to have a person who payed them, regularly, to draw tauren porn or something? I can only assume that person couldn't draw well themselves, but still wanted to bat off to anthropomorphic cows (pictures of which are probably hard to come by). He got what he wanted, and the artist got money. Fair deal. Many people commission because they can't draw well themselves, and the majority of those who can draw can't animate at all. For those people, who can draw their characters any time they want, being able to see their characters animated is a bit of a treat. Animation commissions make more sense to me than single picture commissions in the grand scheme of things.
Anyhoo, I commissioned mine for a two main reasons: I like entertaining people, it's fun, and the idea for this came to mind and it seemed like something people could get a laugh out of, so I wanted to make it happen. From the feedback it seems people liked it, and it was finished on a downer day for me so it cheered me up more than any jpeg of a tauren doing terrible things to a night elf ever could, so to speak.
And also Phi put a lot of work into *ManlyMens , and animated a lot of my stupid ideas and scripts for free. This is a way of paying him back.

I understand and agree with you about the notion of commissioning artists for illustrations, but that wasn't what I found odd. It's the choice of animation that people were willing to pay for that I couldn't grasp. People could have easily requested for their characters to be fully acted out, to have the opportunity to demonstrate a lot more personality and individuality through story or behavior rather than shooting loops from the back. But as Phi explained to me, "They just like seeing life being put into their characters like this. It's not about the bigger picture."

Eh. It doesn't matter. People pay for single drawings too. That's like working on one frame of animation really hard.

The reason? Have you seen the tremendous amount of pageviews Phitus gets? It's like a way to advertise your characters. Look at the pageviews on just this ONE deviation. It's over a thousand and growing by the minute.
Phitus is a Deviantart legend. He's accumulated a MASSIVE amount of fans in a short period of time.
