wow, I really like this. Where is this? Greece? Could you walk to the tower? I can't see a path from this angle... could you go inside the ruins on dry land?
I like the way you took it: right side is solid dry wall, not moving or going anywhere, then there's that greenish water and the tower half drowned is just startling to look at. No one expects a tower to be half under water. You know then that there's a story behind all this!

This is fort Golubac in Serbia. The river is Danube. You can walk to the tower from the other side. I think it got submerged over the years, as hydroelectric plants were built down the river.

that's so sad, that it was allowed to be submerged like this. I looked it up, and I read that since 2005 the fortress was a little renovated for tourism. That's good at least, though the poor tower is lost!Β

It should be completely restored, but there is no money for such a large project.

too bad, it's from the 1400s I think, and featured in so many wars through the centuries, wow.Β
We had amazing Ottoman forts, and the government tore them down to sell the land to businessmen who built skyscraper hotels! Disgusting!! Β Other forts and the famous Hijaz railway are mostly in ruins and very little is done to fix them; even the downtown area with really beautiful cultural buildings that should be in the world Heritage list, are left unfixed.
It's very sad, especially when lots of neighboring countries are losing their sites because of wars... oof I can talk for hours 
Let's hope governments and rich people wake up and save heritages!Β
