Description
We're standing at the starting line, they line us up according to school and speed.  I am last for our school but I am still in the front somehow.  The man yells on your mark, and then the gun goes off.  It scares me, makes me jump out.  As I round the first bend I hear people yelling my name but I try to stay focased. We keep running, I'm trying to keep from being last but it's hard, so so hard.
I'm halfway throught the race and i hear someone remind me of a personanl joke, it makes me forget the pain for 1 second.  During that time I start too gradually creep up on another person, eventually passing her.
We are now in the final lap of the race.  When I have gone around that first curve, I kick.  All of a sudden i'm going fast,  I still have energy.  I pas one girl who sounds like she's about to have a heart attack.
I catch up to another girl on the curve, but she cheats.  Her coach tells her to run faster because I'm behind her.  All i have to go on is my own ability.  She speeds up, I match her speed.  We are on the final straight away.  I'm catching up, but you speed up.  I speed up, but it is to late you have crossed the finish line.
My coach shows me my time.  I have improved by 15 second, hazzah.  Victory.  I see my mother I finnaly relize I passed to people.  A feat i had not been able to accomplish last track meet.  Gasping for breath I jog up to her and in one or two breaths say, "I improved.  I improved by 15 seconds.  I passed two people, I didn't do that last time."  She just smiles and tells me to breath.  Breath are you kidding I just did great, I just beat my last time.  Why should I breath when I'm on cloud nine right now.
