Ahh that's such a shame :[ my mom wasn't a fan of rats either when I got them, but I had great luck of having a suuuper sweet little girl (K2 here in fact!) who kind of won my mom over.

I know a lot of peoples' issues with rodents come from the fact that people find their tails 'gross' and that they as a whole are 'unsanitary'. But honestly, rats can be potty trained, among other things- some studies put them as intelligent as dogs. I can't really fix peoples' perceptions of their tails being gross, but especially as babies they're just fuzzy little noodles *o*

It's tough though, people have issues unseeing the mental image of a sewer rat when they hear the word 'rat'. Perhaps it would help to show her some of the 'cuter' varieties of fancy rat? I think they're all cute of course, but Dumbo rats tend to win a lot of people over cause they're less 'rat looking'. 

They also don't smell as much as guinea pigs and ferrets tbh at least in my experience!

ah, my mom always says "Ew! why would you show me that?!" when I show her a picture of a cute baby rat/mouse. She always gets offended like I just spit in her face

That's really unfortunate :[ she should understand that you're showing her these things because they interest you! And she should care about what interests her child even if they aren't things she normally enjoys

Hmm well. It depends on her reasons for saying no O: Tell her that they are smarter, cleaner, and friendlier than hamsters or mice. They very rarely bite unless very frightened (I've never been bitten), and they bond incredibly well to their humans, rather like dogs. You can train them to use a litter tray as a bathroom, which enables you to keep their cage smelling and looking clean. You can also train them to do little cute tricks. Overall, they're probably the best small pet you can possibly hope for C:

ya i have a hammy hes about to die and im kinda allergic 2 him wah wah but hes bitten me alot... hes verry territorial and messy, poops everywhere. but on the bright side; GRAMMY SAID YES AS LONG AS I KEEP IT CLEAN AND WAIT TIL HAMMY DIES! THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH! btw how long do they live? i also have two turtles you should get some they are SUPER clean, as long as you can get a good filter,you can put fish in its tank although it may eat them but i thrained my turtles to because a fish eating turtle is very healthy. they arent that expensive although that depends on how big the tank is and depending on how well you can take care of them, they may outlive you! you dont have to take them out that often if you dont wany to but a while after you buy them they will soon learn that you bring food and you can also teach them tricks! one of mine knows roll over HAHA! you should watch them occasionally when your bored because they can be VERY funny!

Sadly rats have a relatively short lifespan - generally only about 3-4 years :C They do also have some healthy problems you need to keep an eye out for. I suggest going to some websites and doing some extensive research about what to feed your rats and all that c: Also be sure not to use Pine or Cedar bedding for rats, as it can cause severe respiratory problems. I personally use Aspen bedding.

Haha, I've actually had a pet turtle before xD Didn't like him too much since he just slept for most of the time.
