Well, something's up...Directly following the last page, Sarah and Edmund are discussing Alexander's latest outburst. He bashed Jupiter this time, but another incident devolved into a singing diss/rap battle between him and Galavant's [Queen] Madalena....
and Cersei is never as good at politics as she thinks she is.
(coupla MCU ladies cameo-ing in the bg there, and Mako getting ready for a sequel....)

Edmund may no longer be a King of Narnia, but considering he was younger than Peter when he took Kingship, I can see how he would have a visceral remembered distaste for legal matters. Β I like how chummy he and Sarah are throughout this whole "characters changing appearances and the apartment being an established convergence point for shits and giggles" thing. Β Makes me wonder what's going down in the courtyard though, as it takes more than a glitter poof disturbance, or else "pizza lord" wars between the Goblins and the Faeries, to turn Sarah's head these days.

You've asked a loaded question.
The book was never fully about children being sweet and innocent. Edmund was a traitor, who was given redemption; Susan tended toward arrogance but was still used to lead a nation; and Lucy fell into a period when she allowed herself to be led by others and not Aslan when she knew better, but she was still the one Aslan used to bring the others to their destination. Those are not innocent qualities, but they are redeemable ones.
If you want to get down to what Lewis was writing about, He was writing about how a christian, once they are saved, can never lose their salvation. Once you ask God to forgive you of your sins and believe that Christ is risen, you can never lose your standing with God. "Once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king or queen of Narnia" is about always being God's child. After you believe on Him and ask for forgiveness, no matter what you do or how far you stray, you will go to Heaven. Thus, even when they are much older, they all end up in Aslan's Country in the final book. (Digory and Polly end up there as adults.) Even straying Susan is alluded to as going there one day. No matter how you change, you are always God's child past the archetypes and even past cannon.
