I've read or watched similar stories with this set up and there's generally one hope in this situation.
It's believed this punishment will last Discord a long and painful time. However they don't understand he really has changed, and that change makes all the difference. When one is only acting for their own selfish interests their 'strength' is limited by how much effort they're willing to put into it. But when acting for someone else those boundaries can sometimes be broken. Like the story of a mother lifting a car to save their child or a bystander diving into a river to save someone from drowning.
Simply put, if Discord really wants to help her more than himself, he'll find a way out of this mess no matter what.
