Another beautiful shot of a bird. You manage to capture the colors, detail and expression. And the background colors you get are just beautiful! No idea how you do that.

Thanks! I actually had little to do with those background colors other than noting the lighting was nice and getting my camera out. The flicker chose the spot. Very clever of him.

Thanks, Addam. I know the focus isn't perfect, but it's close enough considering I usually only see the disappearing rump of these gorgeous birds. And it's a lovely reminder that photos can happen anywhere.

It's a beautiful species! It's some kind of woodpecker? It's a little similar to the chilean Pitío
The suggestion of your daughter is one of the bests! Very useful!

It's called a northern flicker. It can be found all over the U.S., but it's very shy. And yes, my daughter gets credit for this one.

Thank you. I'm glad you like it too. It was pure luck. I had to stay indoors yesterday so I set up my camera by the window and left it there. Every time I'd try to capture a small bird they'd see me and depart hastily. My daughter suggested I sit by the camera so I wouldn't have to move so much. And ten minutes later along came a pair of flickers. My first good flicker shot ever!

I'd make a guess that you only got the one shot, they are pretty wary.

They are indeed, but this pair didn't notice me until I'd fired off a dozen shots. I was surprised.

They didn't pose together, but I believe I got the male who is a bit more splendid than his mate. (Not that the missus isn't beautiful too.)

They are both beautiful. Especially the underwings. I've been hoping to catch that but nothing special yet....

That's the way to do it, for sure. I do it often enough that most are only mildly cautious when I'm sitting there.

And now I don't have to worry about it 'cause I can walk in my favorite bird habitat. It just reopened on Sunday. (It's an elk refuge in the winter.) I should see lots of migrating birds in the next month. Yay!

My daughter spotted a number of glossy ibises there two days ago. We saw them last year too. Still seems odd they'd be this far west.

I'm hearing many creatures are being seen out of their normal areas. Some are leaving, some are coming....

Yep. The animals and birds get to deal with the results of human shenanigans. Poor things.

Yes, but the time will come when humans will suffer too. Some already do....
