Description The Tsavo lions are supposedly responsible for the deaths of over 200 people working on the railroad in Tsavo a long time ago. Believing them to be demons rather than lions the natives called them The Ghost and The Darkness" without distinction between the two. The Lions didn't actually look like this. They were maneless and rather large--typical of Lions in the Tsavo area.

This story fascinates me. All stories of animals regularly attacking people are so interesting. There was a tigress that killed over 800 people over the course of four (or maybe eight?) years. Any who Done in acrylic the black lion looks weird... ugh.

This is an amazing work of art. I've heard of the Tsavo man eaters ever since I was a child. True that they didn't have manes or looked like this but it is still a beautiful work of art. And I think it captures the imagination of where they got their names. Where did you hear about the Tsavo man eaters?

I watched that "Ghost and the Darkness" movie! Then I looked it up and read about them. Them and another maneater, a female tiger and is speculated to have killed almost 800 people over her lifetime, I guess she had been eating people for about eight years...incredible...and terrifying

That's incredible. One the saddest scenes from "The Ghost and the Darkness" movie is when Charles gets killed by the last lion. What do you think?

I've actually seen the real Ghost and Darkness in a museam in Chicago. I think the body count is something like 135. True they didn't look like that, but this is still a very good piece of art.
