Description
Finally filled my own expression chart !It is a pretty interesting exercise, I really recommend it ! I'll even advise to think about really precise situations where your character could genuinely burst out laughing/in tears, that helps ! And don't forget the Body Languaaage !
If you wanna take the challenge, blank is here on my other account : [link] !

the ecstatic one has soul stealing eyes : O but overall a good level of different emotions are being portrayed here. Plus it's a good way to get better at doing emotions! : D

I think it's interesting that, the more intense the emotion, the wider the mouth is open.

This is a very cool exercise. Funny, I'd been practising early today with basic happy, angry and sad expressions. This is great to go into depth, thank you.
The most wrathful expression here is my favourite.

I think I must make this one, at least as an exercise, now that I've decided to draw my own serious comic...

Yup this is good practice !
And working on a long comic will certainly make you improve significantly

The problem is that I'm very impatient and I'd wish I'd have drawn everything now . I've writen a lot of the script and started a couple of pages but I shouldn't rush because I don't want to start uploading it yet.
Well I'm here mainly to learn, and I must say your tutorials and memes are great for that

Thanks ^^
Well I made a 47 pages doujinshi some years ago and I'm very proud I've been able to finish it (though, since then, I don't have the faith to make more than 3-pages comics), and the thing that really helped me is that I bought a little sketchbook and I sketched it all quickly (but still definitively), so I knew exactly where I was in the story ! I recommend to do this to everyone before lauching themselves in something long ^^

Sounds interesting. When I wrote the script for my first project I found very easy to write all the dialogs in advance, but now I see it is a two bladed weapon since I'm so far in the story it discourages me to draw it at a slower pace.
I've always made short strips, mainly because I never have writen long stories. I've started a couple of "serious" projects ages ago, but never finished them. But those times computer edition wasn't so easy, maybe using your sketchbook trick may help. I'll definitely give it a try! Thanks! You're becoming my personal sensei!

Aha well if you're already far into the story you can also turn it into a fiction and just, like, draw the main events, or chapters illustrations to advertise it here ! ^^

Yes, you're right, but I'm the first one here who doesn't read fanfics so I guess making it a fanfic would be a bit selfish... "Read mine, even if I don't read yours!!!" And it wouldn't be a challenge either! (though I can always make a drawing a post a bit of the story in the comments)... Oh, well. I'll try the comic first and if it doesn't work, I'll post it as a text!

what a great exercise! and it makes a lot more sense than the ones that just have a bunch of random expressions, I think. It was really fun to scroll down and see her face slowly changing. You've really done such a great job with it-- LIEK YOU SHOULD TOTALLY BE AN ANIMATOR OR SOMETHING!!!

btw always wanted to ask - how did you come to the idea of drawing all characters 4-fingered?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
poly-m In reply to Rhieks [2011-06-11 12:31:35 +0000 UTC]
It's a tradition in cartoon to forget the last finger because it doesn't really add anything to the acting (in tex avery for example). When I'm drawing in a cartoony style I leave it behind, but when I'm working on more realistic pieces, I try to do an effort and add it.
Because, yeah, hands are a pain.

IC) though I think it's more like making 3th and 4th fingers a single one, cause the last one does act like a pinky in cartoons.
heh, hands've never been a pain for me, but I have other problems. backgrounds, details, coloring... *ouch* and unusual points of view give quite a headache sometimes.
