It can be either or both - as you choose! I like to keep images ambiguous so that you can make your own story.
When I was creating it, I was thinking in terms of an exoskeleton - giving Kody immense strength - but super-strength is a common theme in my work.
Then the suit itself is called the "Viper Suit" by its creator who describes it as "a powerful battle ready suit". That suggests body armor.
So, I guess what I'm saying is - it is whichever that you would like it to be!
