Description
Again with the steampunk thing. A bit of the old "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea".Our explorer investigates the depths of the sea in search of a sunken vessel rumored to hold a fortune in treasure.
Legend has it that the vessel is guarded by an unkown beast.....But who believes in legends anyway, right?
EDIT -
Been getting a lot of feedback in terms of similarities to the video game "Bioshock"
Just to point out that this character is based on the old diving suits worn during the turn of the century.
Thes vintage diving suits were around long before Bioshock.
Take a look -

Obviously Bioshock was inspired by these dive suits.

The suits are different in Bioshock, they have eye holes similar to bug eyes and the person inside is BINDED to the suit, Part of him human, part of him machine and all of him grafted to the suit.

What I love about this piece is that the concept is very straightforward and it's executed so simply by using basic compositional elements very, very well. The lighting is fantastic for the atmosphere. The diver is almost monstrous unto himself, so the tentacles lurking in the background make the scene very surreal. His pose is very imposing and his proportions are more monstrous (large hands especially) yet there's something even more alien and monstrous lurking just behind him. Very well done; thank you for sharing!

Not to be annoying - But yes, it does remind me of Bioshock, and yes, that's part of why I like it.
But all similarities to popular video games aside, this is technically very impressive. Great atmosphere and overall painting style. Maybe the lights should actually be darker/ less saturated, for more realism. Though they do provide a nice contrast, against the darker green/ blue-ish tones, as it is.

I can't believe people would make a bunch of comments about it being like Bioshock, I mean WTF who doesn't know of these type of diving suits!? Putting that aside, this is pretty amazing, I love the tencles stretching out for the diver.

even though this was inspired by the original suits you'll have to do a little sister picture for us bio-shock fans to go with it

I think it's cos it's undersea, the lightning and of course the suit that gives people the Bioshock idea. Not that that's a bad thing, Big Daddy = teh lurv : D I love your way of texture and color choice, brilliant! And the light from the suit is stunningly good too = )

Truly inspiring work! I think the colors, lighting, and brushwork are particularly excellent.
Bioshock established a very recognizable style by using the old diving suits, colorful retro-horror lighting, and art deco architecture. Your subjects and style in general have a lot in common with the style they established for Bioshock. 2K would have done very well for themselves to hire you!
That said, this seems like it would have made a great cover for CREEPY back in the day too.

I love the mood. Great work, really! You seem to be a little bit in this Captain Nemo stuff. Me too. I love all these steam machines and those copper and brass based material which they used in former times.
Cheers!
