Great facial close-up!
Parrots will often form pseudo-pair bonds with one handler or show a preference for a certain sex.

Yup. She absolutely ADORES my boyfriend. Makes cooing sounds and everything for him. It is adorable to watch. It is really his bird but I consider her a full member of the family and I love her.

We got our WCP Gracie when she was young and she loved us all though seemed to enjoy being with our daughter most
She used to sit like this the-dude-l-bug.deviantart.com/… for as long as LA would play her video game.
Gracie got to a certain age and things changed quite drastically.
Now, she LOVES my wife & anyone else just gets various levels of tolerance.
She used to come out onto her perch & give me kisses when I opened her cage in the morning.
The day she made her "choice", she announced it by giving me a really good bite.
Having a parrot suddenly latch onto your upper lip to the point where it's quite literally hangin off your face is definitely a wake up call.
NOT a fun way to start a day that's for sure!!
It makes me very sad that she doesn't love me like she did; but she's our birdygirl & I deal.
She'll still "step up" for me, but if I'm not quick enough for her liking or not putting her where she wants, I get nipped.

Yikes!!! I really hope our other cockatoo doesn't turn on me...that would be terrible. She is only 2 and has not yet reached maturity or picked a "mate". This one tolerates me now and luckily gives warnings before she tries to attack me by lowering her head and covering her feet. I am terribly sorry about your lip--that sounds dreadful.
....Of course parrots are wild and should be in the rain forests, not in our homes. I really feel bad for wild-caught "pets"...they had freedom and it was ruthlessly taken from them. Both my birds were bred in captivity and would not survive even if I had the money to try and release them into the wild.
I use flight suits on my birds too! They are not fans and my little one start running away when she knows I'm about to put her in hers. But once its on she's perfectly okay with it. I am really dying to be able to see these creatures in their natural habitats. I have never seen a truly wild and free parrot.

Our birds are domestic bred too.
I'm just glad Gracie doesn't have the beak or bite power of a 'Too.
(If she did, I'd be missing a chunk outta my lip!)
Cockatoos are very beautiful birds, but they need very dedicated owners. They're big, strong, can be rather loud (morning/evening calls) and smart, which tends to translate to destructive when bored. The one thing all the bird breeder said was they can be quite "needy". A surprisingly high number of the ones I met have developed that pseudo-mate pair bond to one of their owners.

Great portrait shot of this bird! I saw one (or one similar) at the St. Augustine alligator farm recently. They're really neat birds.

She is amazing! Has a strong preference for men though...

Haha...ok, I'll pet the bird and distract it while you photograph it then. Seriously though it's funny when animals only want to hang out with men or ladies. My brothers' cat is like that.
