...is a Doozy

It was his first show, well his first official one. Sarge had really only been trained by going over low horse jumps in the rings back at RMS and when Miss Aurora had noticed the dog had some skill she decided to try her hand at directing him. The dogs intense loyalty to her made it easy, Aurora able to lead him around without a leash and point where she wanted him. Not only did she had a great time but she felt like she might actually be able to show him. Nothing too major of course but something just to see if he had what it took. So after some snooping around online she found one that was fairly close by. It was on the weekend and once their registration was accepted she started to plan the weekend. Dustin whined about about it, not happy that Aurora was getting to go alone while he was stuck with work. However she promised to be back in a few hours and after calling the Shepherd into the car they were off.

Once they arrived Aurora was a touch nervous, nodding to people and smiling. She had been to tons of horse shows and never been this nervous before!
"Don't tell the boy." She told Sarge as she moved to check in. The dog just looked to her and panted some more before trotting at her side. They signed in and after that just waited, Aurora watching the other dogs and handlers take their turns on the course. Sarge seemed fairly focused which calmed her some but all of that vanished once they were in the ring. The whistle was blown and both handler and dog took off running. In the beginning Aurora was thrilled, Sarge tackling every obstacle easily and clearly. However she didn't expect the dog to get distracted and distracted he was. As they headed towards one of the final jumps something caught his eye...another dog; but this was no ordinary dog.

To Sarge she was the most stunning, beautiful German Shepherd he had ever seen. Deep chocolate eyes, a soft gray coat that reminded him of the moon on a cloudy night....she was stunning. He felt like he was froze in mid air as he jumped, eyes locked on her as she watched. She caught his gaze, tucking her head some and blushing. Sarge felt a stupid, happy grin spread before....he remembered the ground was coming back up. Before he could react he hit the ground, landing on his head before slumping into a pile on the ground.
Utter humiliation didn't cover it. He just laid there and continued to wish he would just die. Even the humans were laughing!!

Aurora gasped though, spinning and calling to him to get up. His owners call got him up and moving again, Sarge rushing through the rest of the course with his head down and pride broken. What were the chances he'd ever see her again anyways?

But yes!! Sarge's first and hopefully not his last show! I'm rather enjoying drawing something other than horses, dogs are fun! I can't wait to get my Pharaoh Hounds drawn.
