Crayola colored pencil tutorial. This is ooooold. I did this back in 2005 haha. Just thought I'd upload it here because I still get notes asking me if I have a colored pencil tutorial up anywhere. So yea, like I said, old, but I hope it can help anyway. Also, the file is huuuge so give it a minute to come up. x.x

this is really helpful! o3o i really suck at coloring with colored pencils, and im sure this will make be better. thanks!
one question though. do you erase the pencil marks before you outline it with a darker color? or do you draw pencils lines so light that it could be covered by colors? sorry if i misread something or you mentioned it before somewhere
thanks in advance!

Oh no. Sorry I didn't mention that part in the tutorial.
I erase the lines before applying the color so that the color isn't tainted by the grayish lead color.

I suppose you could do it super light with pencil but for me it doesn't work. I'm super heavy handed and my lines come out dark. lol.

I remember if you color back and forth, you can see that when you're done and it looks rushed. When I color, I usually go to the line and back or just lightly color until I'm at the darkness I need.

A lovely tutorial. Though I personally like rough paper for my watercolors, and I also do a lot of blending, lol.
What I really love about your pencil works is how shiny they are, haha.

Yea, I'm sure watercolors are different though I've never really used them much. xD
Thanks.

No, I meant pencils. Normal colored pencils. I like to use them on watercolor paper. I did so for this piece, for instance: [link]

Thank you -very- much for posting this. Very helpful.
(Something to add in your description may also be the paper quality. I have some paper that, no matter how much I work with a white or colorless blender, it is -never- smooth on colored pencils. Graphite? I can make that smooth anywhere.)

No problem. And actually for this one I just used regular computer/printer paper so I guess that works well. xD

Yeah, printer paper is really good for holding colored pencil. Just has to be something fairly smooth. :3
