Ashley wasn't surprised when she felt a cool band slip on her finger. He had bought her jewelry before. Usually it was cute hair clips or earrings, but it wasn't out of place for Tom to bring a ring to his girlfriend either.

The night had been perfect; dinner in the Crystal palace, followed by dancing in the ballroom (avoiding Her Majesty Serenity, who *still* couldn’t dance). Then, they had wandered the royal gardens until the distant chime of a church bell told them it was midnight. Tom laid a hand on Ashley's arm and gently led her to a bench nearby. The soft, cool breeze ruffled the golden hair of both as moonlight filtered through the roses and other flowers.

"I want to give you something. Close your eyes."

Ashley complied with childlike delight, closing her baby blues in anticipation. When she felt the ring slide onto a slim finger, her eyes opened . . . and then popped. There, on her finger, was a gold band with a diamond in pale blue; the exact color of her crescent moon birthmark, which flared to life as tears filled her eyes. As she turned to Tom, now on his knees, he began to speak.

"I could say a million things about why I love you. I could say I admire your strength. I could say I love your sweet nature. I could even say it's destiny. Nothing would be enough. I love you more than life itself. Will you marry me?"

I’ve been working on this for the last couple of hours. I wanted to get ’s edit done, because it was one of the more fun ones to do. I’m not sure about the little ficlet; I know this isn’t how the character really proposes (it’s been a while since I read the stories, so I’m a bit rusty). However, maybe in another universe he proposes this way.
