He watched the younger as he slept—it was creepy, in fact, it was almost common.  Riku got so little sleep, because he spent so much time watching the brunette.  He had a delicate smile painted gently on his face, looking peaceful, at ease.  It was impossible to tell he was a sobbing mess just an hour before—the only slight hint was the slight pink tint on his face, washed out by the fading sunlight that slipped through the cracks in the window.
His breaths were soft, even, and Riku paced his breathing to that of his lover, a small smile spread over his face.  He couldn't help it—he never could.  There was something very beautiful about the boy, very compelling, something very, very important.  There was something there that played his heart like an acoustic; he just didn't know how to explain that to Sora in words.  He tried desperately to convey his every feeling and thought through his actions—his kisses, his smiles, his loving gazes, even the speed of his heartbeat, whenever Sora was close enough to hear it, to feel it.
Like right at that moment, when he felt like he could see that light, in the black haze he compared his life to.  There was a glimmer of hope, of light—yes of love—and it was Sora.  Everything went back to that stunning boy sleeping beside him.
Gently, he tried so hard not to wake the brunette, as he drew a finger along the boys jaw line, stroked his hair—tried to communicate his thought into tender touches and heartfelt gazes that Sora wasn't awake to understand.  He wasn't sure Sora would understand even if he was awake.  Riku didn't really understand it himself, all of the things flashing through his heart, but never really connecting to his brain.  He had two ways to think, one that was logical, and one that connected straight to his soul, one that took every little thought and feeling and made it shine in his eyes, for the world to steal and use against him.  He tended to push logic to the side where Sora was involved.
He couldn't help it.
All of the feelings, the affections that coursed through his veins took over, pushing all logic to the side.  For the first time, he felt like he could put everything he was feeling into words—no, one word.  For the first time, his head and his heart were on the same page, as he brushed his lips along his love's jaw, along his cheeks, barely there on either eyelid, the tip of the nose, before finally meeting the satin lips.
Sora was a mere moment too late to respond, but his eyes fluttered open, all of his thoughts clear to the world with a simple glance in the direction of those azure irises.  His smile a little wider, blush just a bit more prominent on his sun-kissed cheeks, he pulled himself closer to the silverette, hiding against his chest, feeling the boy's heartbeat there.
Riku was hesitant to break the silence, the beautiful, serene silence that enveloped them like a blanket, but he did.  He had to—he couldn't help it.  The silverette didn't have a way with words, especially when explaining what Sora meant to him, but he knew now.  He knew better than he knew anything else.
His whisper was calm, hushed, his confession filled to the brim with all of his heart and soul, held out to Sora on a platter.
"I love you."
The words came to him relatively simple for once.
Sora's words were against his lips, pressing them straight into his heart where he'd treasure them forever, nestled where no one else could see them.
"I love you too, Ri."
The phrase was so simple, and yet, so binding, they didn't have a second thought as they lied together in a tangle of limbs, and let the world around them continue to turn.
