Description UPDATE hahayeah. this concept never went anywhere. But I like this screencap, so it gets to languish with the other animays.

DA chaos--child inspired me with this: [link]

This conceptual screencapture is from a hypothetical anime version of the manga I am currently working on. PLEASE NOTE!: The manga I am currently working on, and from which these characters hail, is NOT drawn in this style. I drew this screencap in the art-style of chaos--child, though I took a few liberties; I elongated Gorgo's eyes (which she doesn't do often), and extrapolated lipstick patterns. As well, I shaded the characters' faces in a somewhat different style. Every surface uses a maximum of three colours for shading. I only fit as much text on screen as would normally be shown in a subtitle.

Context:
Unsurprisingly, the two main characters of a romance manga marry. Seriously, this isn't even a spoiler. Here, main character Hilo Waterson tries on the groomsman outfit of his wife-to-be's culture. Gorgo, the prospective uncle-in-law threatens Hilo, as is his wont.
"You'd best treat him well, lad. I cannae be responsible for my husband's penchant to rip the head off of those who would mistreat my neice." Threatening to sic your shoggoth spouse on the scared-witless mortal human groom? NICE.

Questions:
Q: What's that thing by the black haired guy's mouth?
A: A mole.

Q: Why do your pronouns make no sense?
A: Hilo (black hair) is a male human, but his wife-to-be and Gorgo (green hair) are both hermaphrodites. I refer to them all as "he" but use female familial-relationship words such as "daughter," "neice," and "wife". It's a compromise.
However, the terms "mother" and "father" still only apply to who provided which gamete to the child.

Q: Why is the green haired guy's mouth purple?
A: His blood oxidizes purple. This gives him purple or lavendar where a human would have pink, and makes his skin more yellow and sallow.

Q: Okay, so why is there purple on the other guy's cheek?
A: Wedding makeup. It's exaggerated blush.

Q: Whyfor the cross pupils?
A: It's an alien. Sheesh. For the record: he can indeed see through those pupils. The iris is divided into four parts differently from a human eye, the iris muscles are contructed to work that way, and photoreceptors are mapped differently on the back of the eye. For one thing, the eye can let more light in one quadrant to better analyze one colour or another, much like having photoshop in your brain. All of his eyes are like this, and he has quite a few. Be glad you can't see them.

Q: Insider question, where are Hilo's glasses?
A: Contacts! It's going to be his wedding day, after all.

Figures in Illustrator, Background and effects in Photoshop. (I'd have liked to say it's vector work, but alas I wanted the broken VCR effects!)

Thanks! I feel kinda bad that I couldn't make it higher quality animation with actual good lighting, etc, but such is the game.
It was interesting trying to draw your style...

I did the effect by selecting a little of the top, applying the "wind" effect twice, then on a second layer drawing straight lines in white, blurring them, and then adding a texture at 200%. I then erased it a bit at the bottom of the texture. On the bottom, I did some screen burn-out as well with one white line fading out, an oval of black on the opposite end, and a burn gradient. Ahhh, just like my old TV.
