It's my grandmother's birthday tomorrow and this is to be a gift.

It is acrylic on watercolor paper. (I could not find an appropriately sized canvas, I am broke and this is all I had laying around.) The actual size of this is about 5x7in. Border added in MSpaint.

My scanner did a bit of a number on it. It has a habit of really pulling out certain colors and saturating them (especially yellows) This is much softer in person I assure you.

A personal bit about the piece: My grandma doesn't collect bird memorablilia or anything like that, but she has hummingbird feeders and loves to sit out and watch the birds, so I'm hoping she will like this. You can take from it what you wish, as with any piece of art but there is alot of symbolism in this for me. For example- I used alot of purple and green in there for my birthstone (amethyst) and hers (emerald). That is just one of many. I really tend to pour my heart into my artwork, especially when it is for someone I love.

I googled hummingbird images just to get some ideas. It is not based on any bird or photo in particular. The background was completely off the top of my head. The flower was loosely based off a reference photo found here- [link] by
