Description Been trying to design a couple of military vehicles as of late.
Unfortunately I am not talented in the drawings of machines.
Practice should help I guess.

This thing here is supposed to be some small mobility vehicle, like a Land Rover, Jeep or Hum Vee.

Criticism and suggestions are highly encouraged.

Well... perhaps it would be a good idea to protect the glass of the vehicle somehow. The more glass parts it has, the more vulnerable it is, even though we know that bulletproof glass exists. Still, modern praxis shows that mostly used windows are perhaps 10x20 cm big, what is quite small. It all depends from the purpose of the vehicle - the more towards first line it should be, the less glass should be used.
Otherwise, it looks quite modern, there's not very much to be said about its construction for it is hidden inside the vehicle, isnt it

The thing above the vehicle is probably M2HB machine gun, yes? There I would perhaps add some shield if not a turret. Or, even better, making it an unmanned turret ([link] ) for instance.

Ït would be a good idea to draw different views of the vehilce, or showing the construction to see more stuff from the vehicle

I dont say the things I said are right, after all. I just said what I think would be good for the vehicle If you needed more, there's no prob in contacting me I suppose, so feel free to ask if you want to!

Thanks for that.
Sorry for the time it took me to get to this.
I don't think I specifically copied the machine gun design but it was inspired by the M2HB, yes.

Enlargen the wheelbase, military vehicles usually have a wide footprint for stability. I'd trim the windows, in hight atleast; to reduce passenger exposure. Maybe more girth to the engine area to insinuate a powerful military grade power plant.

Hmm, the engie bay does looka little small and the windows too tall. Thanks.

looks good mate, so far,

what i would do is lengthen the wheelbase a bit and give it a more distinctive rear end, like a slant on the hummer, or something unique. also, i would raise the height of the bonnet a tiny touch, this will reduce the front profile of the front windshield, this should make it look like the vehicle is actually quite 'slim' but has been raised for all terrain purposes . perhaps bigger bumpers on the front and back?.
i dont know if you saw that Top Gear episode when they raced this 'monster truck' thing against a ski-sled with huskies across the antarctic. This monster truck this was very cool, like a long SUV on steroids
it wasnt over the top, just right. try searching on google and perhaps that will give you more inspiration. If you want me to make a quick model of something let me know.

I do in fact know what you speak of. I will do some googling to locate images.
Not sure exactly what you mean about making the rear unique.

Thanks allot for the advice. As for modelling, I think Some other views should be done before such things.

oh cool,

unique...well, difficult to describe. i would say, view similar modern military vehicles from the back end, see what they could possibly lack in terms of equipment or protection etc, and add it on

no probs, like i said, let me know if you want me to make something.
i'm eager to make something new in 3d, but i've got no sketches or designs that are quick and simple to do....

Well, you could try something more along the lines of a Pinzgauer.
[link]

Go for the set-up the SAS jeeps had. A machinegun and a grenade launcher. And if you can fit an RPG in there somewhere, all the better.

But yeah, drawing vehicles-n-such requires a different mindset or skill to drawing organic things like critters and people.

I can't draw cars either .. I realized how crappy I am at non-characters when I took art class this year and she had me trying to draw pots and walls.

..DragonCommander seems to have a clue though

There appears to be a distinct gap between the skills of drawing organic things and inorganic things.

Very cool vehicle you have. I'm pretty good when it comes to war vehicles and weaponry. Here's some tips and suggestions:
- Try to draw different sides of the vehicle/object to really show what it looks like in other areas.
-If you Draw 3Dimmensional, Use perspective drawing
-A war vehicle should have at least light bulet proof armor
-similar applies with the windows(use bullet proof glass)
-Half tracks are OK but If you use 2 pairs of tyres, you gotta instal a metal plating to protect the top part of the wheels

If you need anymore Help or tips with designing war vehicles and weaponry, come ask me if you wish, I can send in more tips or submit my tutorial or work in DevArt but I cant submit at the moment until my scanner is repaired. But just in case, you might need add me as a friend /DevWatch me so you will be notified that my work has been submitted. You can Also go to my DevArt Homepage by clicking on my Username, Go to some of the chatboxes on the righthand side, Keep on scrolling down until You can find the username:
'A-Tevios' ,If you can't find the Username, click next until you find it. If you find the Username, click on it or the thumbnail. Then you can ask him tips and some tricks about vehicles and war weaponry. I cant post a link to him because I'm no good with HTM/HTML codes

Oooo combat car.
Well, personally I really suck at designing vehicles..... other than tracked tanks.

Kinda looks very civilian-like.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PyroTeamkill In reply to Snowfyre [2007-12-02 15:06:58 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, yeah, looks a bit too like an SUV to me too.
I tried designing a tank too but it was very crap. Thought I would make it a half track too for a bit of uniqueness.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snowfyre In reply to PyroTeamkill [2007-12-02 15:19:46 +0000 UTC]

Think might be the rear wheels.
If you move them nearer to the rear bumper it may look bit less civilian like.

Looks like a modified in the front hummer XP Though personally. i'd make the tires closer to the body. or make the tires bigger to fill that gap >.> just doesn't look right personally

PyroTeamkill In reply to Cmdr-A [2007-12-02 15:10:02 +0000 UTC]

Thought I'd give it lots of suspension space for rough terrain. Hmm I will look into this. Thanks.
