Description
Finally got around to singing this cover song. Probably my best effort yet, in retrospect. Also was my first experiment with the Flex feature for recordings in Logic Pro X, which I used to correct the timing of my voice.Original song Β© Depeche Mode

Not bad. A bit more refining and it would sound professional.

What kind of refinement? Regardless, I appreciate the comment.

I'm definitely not an expert on music or singing, so it's just my opinion, but I think it's a matter of working on your voice more - although it has potential, it sounds a little flat - but I've heard many beginner singers overcome this problem with simple practice and eventually their voices have more depth. I also think that your voice sounds better in higher key [the part with "I canβt understand (...)"] than in lower here (which sounds quite raw), but it may be just this one song.

Yeah, I acknowledge that live performance is my weakest spot in music, and singing is no different, no matter how much I feel I've improved in the last year. Thank you for the critique. For some reason, I thought your concerns were about the instrumentation.

The instrumentation here is pretty similar to the original, but upgraded. I must say that I highly appreciate the fact you used your voice here and not some modified robotic pseudo-futuristic garbage that sadly seems to occupy many tribute albums that I heard (not that I'm against distorting voices, it's fine if done well). It seems singing with a real voice is a brave thing to do in these times, so keep going, you'll be awesome.

Yeah, rest assured, I hate the sound of the kind of voice you're referring to, sometimes referred to as "autotune". I acknowledge I did use some minor pitch correction, but I ensured the correction was a slow response time, whereas autotune involves instant pitch correction.

Hah, I didn't even think of autotune, which is like a disgrace to music nowadays. I meant modifying a voice to sound more robotic or edgy or whatever, but not in an awesome way like that vocoder in Daft Punk's hits, but in an uninteresting and boring way which seems like a poor attempt to mask one's inability to really sing, a thing I encounter mainly on underground records. A good example is a tribute album I wanted to buy recently, but felt demotivated to do so after looking up a preview . There're like three or four good tracks and most of the rest sounds like a really weak attempt to sound edgy and makes me want to just listen to originals more.
