Tip: if you angle the camera or your light so that it does not directly hit the lens it will reduce lens flare

Welcome. I had to do it for a college assignment a while ago so I learnt alot from it. :3 I have a few light trail pictures up if you browse my gallery and find my set called 'the night'

so i have a question, do you have to have a certain camera for light painting?

You can do it on ANY digital camera, you just need to have the shutter speed at more than a second as Pythonlt said and a tripod will be very handy as it will be hard to write something straight if the camera is moving all over the shop.

i cant do it on the camera i have :/ i have a really low quality camera named "jazz dvx40"

Hmmm its more of a video camera but try putting the camera in manual mode and from there you should be able to manipulate the shutter speed if you can get to manual mode that is.

yeah the only mode i see it had is driver mode

Night mode is good, you have to put the speed of your camera at more than a second
