Description
Everyone's favorite bulgy DB villain, Broly.I always felt sorry for the guy, he's the only villain who wasn't necessarily evil, just suffered some major psychological issues. Not that it was a big problem until Goku & co decided to provoke him. Poor kid, being used by his father and whatnot. ._.
A couple more of these "tests" until I get the hang of my new painting method, then I'll work on something a little more refined and not... DB. Haha.
I tried to work more with green since someone wanted a Piccolo piece, but it made his skin all zombie-like so I went back to regular skin tones. Agh!

That is quite possibly the most WIN* line in ALL* of DBZ.

I dunno, I liked the idea of Brolli/Broly, but not the final product. The fact that his insanity was triggered by the memory of Kakarott and his crying as a child instead of his father's obvious mistreatment of him irked me. There had to be a better way of bringing the Legendary SSJ theme in; maybe have Brolli (Accepting his LSSJ status permanently) sensing Goku go SSJ (maybe Vegeta too), and get all jealous/feel threatened by no longer being the one and only to hold the power. He then sets up a trap similar to Movie 8 to fight and destroy them.
Also, he needed to lose the pec implants LIEK WHOA.
...But that's just me.

You're actually critiquing the complexity and integrity of writing in the DB franchise? Really? I always thought it was god awful and meant for prepubescent minded boys. Sure, early DB had some form of novelty with its child-like themes and traditional representations of good vs evil but anything beyond that was just shit string together as an excuse to watch repeated animation frames of overpowered tough guys beat the brains (or what little they had) out of each other.
Entertaining the idea though, I enjoyed Broly's character as just some mentally deranged force to be reckoned with. There's too many "smart" scheming villains in the DB franchise as is, he was somewhat refreshing.
Actually I'm wanting to do a quick one of Piccolo sporting his SPECIOBEAMCANNONO.

What can I say, I like a challenge. XD; Making DBZ into something intelligent is definitely that.

I'm so glad you haven't given up on Piccolo. 8D Even a line drawing from you would be fun to see, if you wanted to avoid the 'zombie-skin'.

Hey
This picture is amazing and your amazing ^^
Love that style of painting, I tried to do it before but I couldnt' grasp how you mix colors and start off.
Any tips man? would really help please ^^
As well ye, should look at Street Fighter 4 Art because it's pretty much the same way you colored which is awesome ^^ Maybe that will help ^^
Oh could you do in the future a drawing of Dante from Devil May Cry in that style, I know you can do it ^^
Cheers ^^

Its absolutely necessary to have a rough understanding of color fundamentals before you can tackle working with them at an unrefined level.
I almost want to suggest more linear methods of rendering/coloring that include using many Multiply and Addition (color burn?) layers. That way you can experiment blending different colors together and hopefully, over time, get a better feel for them.
Seen them.
Haven't gotten into the DMC series.

Hey man ty for reply.
Well I need to finish this portrait I am doing of my Aunti for her Birthday. But I swear I am trying to coloring it in, in Photoshop.
Here my steps.
Scan image, then new layer "Skin color" then "Line Art"
I honestly am a n00b on the process what you got to do lol.
So I first did a base color of a yellowish, then trying over with more pinkish/ orangish color. Then like a brownish for the dark areas. It just look like a complete utter mess. Unrealistic etc. I need some help please I can't find any tutorials a bout

When you went over it with a pinkish/orangish color and a brownish color for the darker areas, did you create a new layer over it? If you did, what type of layer was it?
The beauty of working with layers (especially for people who're still learning how to mix colors) is that you can always change layers to experiment and gradually making it look "right"
This is what your Layers window should look sort of like:
Lineart (Normal or Multiply)
Highlights (Addition or Color Burn)
Brownish Tone (Multiply)
Pinkish Tone (Multiply)
Base Color Layer (Normal)
In no way is this an example to live by, you may have Highlights over your Lineart layer, more Tone layers, more "normal" layers ontop for atmospheric perspective or grow out of this method altogether. I encourage you to develop your own methods as you become familiar with the program.

wow man your really great!
Well the thing I was doing is like.....
Scan image "Layer"
Then Skin layer-Multiply. I would then do all skin coloring with that one layer? Is that wrong then? lol
Then I make a Line Art Layer and would do all Line art with that.
So it would be best to seperate the colors then in different layers?
I really preshiate your help man!

Quirkilicious In reply to MultiLock [2009-04-11 05:15:25 +0000 UTC]
Yea, separate the colors in different types of layers.
Again, this is what your layer window should look sort of like.
Multiply or Normal - Lineart (This is the scanned drawings with the lines, make sure its just the lines so it doesn't cover your layers below it)
Linear Dodge - Highlights (What the name says, this is where you put your highlights)
Multiply - Tone Color (This is a light redish/pink that you put ontop of your base skin color for shading)
Normal - Base Color (This is your skin color, it is flat with NO shading)
Normal - Background (Do whatever you want with this)
You might have more Multiply layers to add darker shading.

Broly's name was derived from the word Broccoli, like many of the other character's names in DB are word puns
Kakarot = Carrot
Vegeta = Vegetable
Trunks = Swimming Trunks
Bulma = Bloomers
Bulla = Bra
The list goes on and on.

dont all their names come from strange words
like king piccolo's childer(?) have names of instrument
the saiyans come from veggies
the briefs(bulma's family) come from under wear
freiza's family comes from cold related words
the ginyu force from dairy products
hercule's(mr.satan) family is from religious names/words
chichi comes from an old japanese term used by children for the word pen!$
