The new Voltron has some great animation from Studio Mir, but what really shines is how the writing takes elements from the older show and merges it with fresh diversified character concepts and a complex serialized plot by 'childrens cartoon' standards. As of Season 5 the show has garnished interesting lore and continues to build on itself transcending the original IP in every way possible.I mean a large portion of the fanbase is here to ship bois, but it's genuinely a great show

Even with Power Rangers and all of their incarnations, I find Voltron: Legendary Defender is going where Power Rangers should have gone -- minus the whole martial arts thing.Β Despite my approval of the Rita/Zordon relation, the new power suits, and of course how they did Goldar, I found the story was severely lacking in character with no real development in the plot.
But on V:LD, you already got a grasp of who everyone is right away without knowing their back story, a setup that is easy to follow without being dumb down, while creating something new that is still Voltron -- like Star Trek's Kelvin timeline.
