That was the idea I was shooting for, so I'm glad the effect reads properly.

The yin-yang symbology is intentional in this piece, though I didn't want it to be too terribly overt. Just a hint of Dynamic Opposition.

Thanks very much! I'm glad you like this one. It remains one of my favorite recent pieces.

I use a mixed media approach to most of my work. I do a pencil drawing first to lay out the design. The background is a couple of layers of watercolor (with water spritzed over it with a plant mister to get those splotchy effects) over the pencil. I color the dragons in with Prismacolor pencils, which are thick and opaque, so they cover up the watercolor that I don't want to show through.

That's how I do it!
