Description
This is part of a commission for Mary W. She *wanted* the whole fluffy, frilly angel design used for one character, at least. The other one isn't quite so... girly.
In spite of the pastel colors, I had fun with this part of the project. Since I don't usually do this kind of color scheme, I found it interesting and not nearly as challenging as I thought it would be. The angel and the ring-thing on which she's sitting will be cut out for inclusion in one of my big, layered monstrosities. So, stay tuned. More to come.
Made with watercolor, Prismacolor pencils, gold paint pen.

Ooh, so smooth! I love how that large sash turned out as well as the details in those purple feathers. This is quite nice; good clean edges, and smooth gradients.

I blame Erte for most of my fashion sense - I love what he did with drapery, beads, and applique, and other stuff. Over-the-top theatrical designs, even for the everydaywear. It leaks into my frilly angels quite a lot these days.

Thanks very much. I reserve most of the fluffy stuff like these angels for the Christmas season, but my friend wanted a special piece with the crazy drapery and psychedelic wings, so I'm going to be adding several angels to the series a bit out of season.

As someone who likes to dabble in calligraphy, I know the resistance one can feel toward 'frilly' and 'fluffy' work. I can't stand the swirly kind of calligraphy that is pervasive on wedding invitations. 
However, you really rose to the challenge on this one. Your colors work nicely together, and it has a nice angelic look to it. I'm particularly impressed with all of the folds in the fabric. It looks amazing.

Thanks very much! Yes, those fabric folds are almost more important than the angel itself... They were the first thing I tackled when I started coloring this. The angel's face was the very last thing.
LOL - I think the people defining calligraphy mistook the term for "cursive" - cursive is that frilly, curly, wedding-invitation stuff, while calligraphy has a broader application which includes more properly straightforward typefaces.

It has a light and airy feel to it, plus the pastel colors give it a billowy softness in the background. It's a lovely work!

The Prismacolor pencils get most of the credit for the blending effect. When I get enough layers built up, it's almost like coloring with a thin layer of clay. I kind of push the colors around until they are where I want them to be.

Thank you. The folds of the dress are fun to draw - it's kind of like a puzzle. I draw the swirly edge at the bottom hem first, then figure out how to arranged the folds of cloth that fall from her waist.
