Oh, I almost forgot to note but it's probably important - all of the work here is from scratch, including the text box borders and the font. I tried to make the letters a bit thick so it reads okay from a reasonable distance.
If anybody can guess what inspired the palette, I'd be extremely happy

Awesome work and idea, even when it reminds me of the "pixel challenge".
Honestly, I dont know how to do a pixel looking picture without going nuts in the process. ^^

Yeah, I hope if I do get in semifinals it isn't overlooked just for the pixel challenge having been done before - after all, they didn't specify style or medium

Reminds me of the first level of Centipede? I dunno, maybe that's the spider's fault.
I wasn't particularly whelmed by the thumbnail of this, but then I read what the text actually says and now I can heartily agree with the other commenters that this is an awesome concept that I would enjoy seeing somebody wearing. xD

Ha maybe, though I recall Centipede having considerably lower-scale graphics (though, I'm sure there's a million upgraded versions by now that I'm not thinking of...) The general look is meant to be a mesh of various NES RPGs, most noticeably Dragon Warrior, and the palette and background inspiration are derived from MS-DOS games (best example would be Hugo's Jungle of Doom for the plantlife, that game had some very nice backgrounds for a 16 color palette.)

Very nice, I can tell that lots of detail went into this, I've looked at it a few times now and I'm just noticing the spider, so plenty of great touches to this piece. It looks just like the old days, great job and good luck.

Ohh, I never played that one, looked it up just now and it totally looks like something I would have played had I seen it at the time (I mean, there is a giant dragon RIGHT THERE on the cover)
I couldn't find any screenshots of the DOS version specifically, but considering the time it came out, it probably used the same palettes as I was inspired by here.
