Description Aya interviews Patchouli for the Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red. Apparently the Scarlet Devil Mansion is holding a Setsubun festival(normally held at New Year's) in the early summer, to prevent the onis from coming back. Remilia thinks it's quite counterproductive to throw roasted beans around, since you burn your hands on them.

I'm not sure how it all ends though, I tried to translate it, but Patchy's talk is quite complicated. I like Aya better, simple and straightforward. Short sentences.

Touhou by ZUN. Pencil and Photoshop.

This picture reminds me somehow of a library attendant, where she would FUCKING MURDER anyone who would even think of putting something that resembles food or glass of water close to the reading sofas.

It would be hell to organise such a collection. she got more items then the US congressional library.
β€œThe U.S Library of Congress in Washington D.C. ranks as the largest library in the world. It holds over 118 million items which require more than 500 miles of shelving.”

Patchouli is a tea junkie herself, so she's more intimidated by Aya's straightforwardness.
It's easy to gather a lot of book when you've got practically unlimited storage capacity.

I am more or less a sugar addict when drinking tea. adding about 12 spoons of sugar to it. So I can relate.

You drew in the lines for every one of those books in the background, and didn't just copypasta them, didn't you.

Yes, it's drawn in pencil. But once you have the shelves lines up, just drawing the lines goes pretty fast.

God, the more I look at this, the more I want it.

To fill up such a large place with so many books. All your books. Jesus.

All your books are belong to Patchouli.
She's been collecting for a hundred years.

My private theory is that both Alice and Patchouli were once ordinary humans, but achieved "youkaihood" through studies.

AnonDesu In reply to Ragathol [2009-08-08 03:54:24 +0000 UTC]

I think it's canon Alice attained youkaihood through study.

But I do think the same about Patchy and Meiling, too. Actually, about all the Touhou cast who happen to be youkai. Since traditional youkai aren't very human-looking, the way I figure is that the named characters just happen to be extra powerful ones who used to be human.

Ragathol In reply to AnonDesu [2009-08-08 15:22:42 +0000 UTC]

Most of them, yeah. Some are obviously derived from animals, objects, etc, but even ZUN has no idea what kind of youkai Meiling would be. "But, Meirin looks like she's not human.
Then what is she... (eh)"

AnonDesu In reply to Ragathol [2009-08-10 04:06:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, if they got animal bits still stickin' out of them, they're clearly not former humans, but you know.

Meiling could be a dragon in the sense that Iku is an oarfish...

Very possible. Or one of the old terracotta warriors come to life.

I don't think any of the terracotta warriors were women. So if that theory's right, then...

If you drew all those shelves in the back by hand, you deserve the title of Most Patient Person I Know. @_@
I would either have gone insane or have been lazy and drawn one shelf and copy-pasted it ad infinitum, to be done with it.

She's actually kinda reserved and snobby in the interviews and her own writing in the paper. But that may be because everyone thinks she's just writing a load of crap.
