Haven't played the new shashin shootan game yet, but I thought I'd draw Hatate anyway. I don't think she's very interesting, but may prove useful in combination with Aya.Related content

Yeah, a lot of the newer characters really don't have that much meat to them.

Well, none of them do, canonically. The older ones just have more meat because because the fans have filled them up more, and they've made several appearances.

Well, I mean, even canonically there are a lot of characters who stand out first which lets them get built up on by the fans. Like, I mean, MoF for example, Kanako has a really cool presence as soon as she steps into the picture, but Suwako is just kinda, eh. You know?
Out of the entire UFO cast, the only thing that stood out for me was Unzan. And that's mostly because he was the first dude to come along in forever. That and he was remarkably well-drawn for Zun.

I liked Shou, she really made a mark on me(with her lasers). Really powerful stage and boss music too.

Well, I really like your take on Shou, because her armor looks pretty awesome. But Zun's design doesn't really do anything for me. I never played the full UFO, though, so there's that. Guess I don't really have a right to complain.

If you mean that pencil drawing, the armour was inspired by wooden Buddhist deity statues I saw in a really impressive temple/museum in Kyoto. One thousand intricately designed man-sized statues + 28 deities + one giant Buddha under the same roof.
But yeah, ZUN's design is so-so. I try to draw her with the same force as you feel when you meet her. She's relentless.

Yes, she is a guardian deity, so it suits her.
Although that drawing was actually meant to be Kanako from the beginning, but halfway through I realized she's a Shinto goddess, not Buddhist... So I changed it to Shou. They're sort of similar anyway.
