Cerberus, the semi-governmental organisation entrusted with the safekeeping and secrecy of Veil across most of Western Europe, splits down into multiple divisions. Of these, the most high profile is Magistratus, responsible for policing. Most of Veil's population will only usually encounter officers who handle the kinds of day-to-day law and order that would be familiar to NETVs (those "Not Exposed To Veil" - or, to use the increasingly common slang, "Muggles") - traffic policing, criminal investigations and other such affairs.

However, given the nature of many of Veil's denizens, both sapient and non-sapient, situations can often arise that require a containment team authorised in the use of force - a role is filled by Magistratus's Omega Division. Often surrounded by both awe and controversy, this team consists of a broad mix of highly skilled officers trained in a wide range of weaponry and tactics, including many normally restricted to military use.

Jinx Harris, 48, is a female elf serving as second in command of "Omega Division" field team in the London and South East area. While technically subordinate to Nyx Heragatera, Jinx is often called upon to lead containment teams directly, as her elven parentage means she can pass with much less notice than the arachne. Although Nyx and Jinx often differ considerably in opinion, the arachne has quite a lot of respect for the elf, and will (at least provisionally) trust her judgment on most matters. Following the Level Zero incident in Ketting, it was Jinx who advocated incorporating the AI Athena Lovelace into the Omega Division.

While relatively young by elven standards (a typical life-expectancy for elves being around 400 years), Jinx's skill set is a more than a match for human special forces, combining decades of experience with the physical prowess of an elf in her prime.

It is 2018.

The United Kingdom is still arguing over Brexit, Vladimir Putin has been re-elected for his fourth term as Russian president, and a disillusioned AI super-soldier is failing to live a normal life.

After witnessing vampires attack a police officer she'd only just met, the pair are thrown into a world hidden from mortal eyes. Recruited by "Cerberus", they find themselves working alongside a sarcastic half-dragon, a distant arachne sorceress, and other paranormal denizens in order to try to maintain a 500-year ceasefire.
This is the Fracturing Veil.
