Description This thingamajib is nowhere near comprehensive, but it's a pretty good start. Also you can see what a complete freaking nerd I am. 8C

I felt bad for not including things like music or movies, but it was hard to keep this map from being just a bunch of pictures of things I like. I think these things are what influenced my art and stories the most. It's NOT necessarily a list of things I think are the greatest.

Super long explanation:

*Pokemon - It gets the biggest picture because it's been the largest influence on my entire life, not just my art. I know that sounds really lame, but it's true.

*Gargoyles - I love and respect this cartoon for its characters, themes, world, and allusions to folklore and literature. Its influence is most apparent in Slightly Damned if you look in the right places.

*Skies of Arcadia - Possible my most favorite JRPG of all time. The optimism, the color, and the characters were a big inspiration for my webcomic.

*Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - I was a huge TMNT nut when I was a kid, and drew the turtles all the freaking time.

*Usagi Yojimbo - An epic, masterfully crafted comic series. The art may be a turnoff for some, but I think Sakai's work is excellent.

*Azumanga Daioh - I absolutely loved Azumanga Daioh in high school. I really appreciated its-character based comedy and took a lot of facefaults from it for my own art.

*Akazukin Chacha - Hilarious, hyperactive, adorable, and loveable. You know those giant googly eyes that Buwaro sometimes has? This is where they came from.

*Fruits Basket - I watched the anime in high school and really loved it. I've since grown out of it, but I did take away some story elements (does Kyo's bracelet remind you of anyone?), character reactions, simplistic animal designs, and cheesy romance elements from it.

*Sailor Moon - In late middle school I was absolutely obsessed with Sailor Moon. We're talking the works: fanfics, fan characters (although they were cats), role playing (in the playground at school!)... I still like the themes of friendship. Although I did like other anime before this, I still consider Sailor Moon to have been my "gateway" to the world of Japan.

*Scott McCloud - I can't stress enough how important "Making Comics" is to me as a constant source guidance and inspiration. His other books also helped me become interested in becoming a comic artist in the first place!

*Oh My Goddess! - I've been keeping up with this series out of habit since I was in elementary school, no joke. Angels? Check. Demons? Check. Lame gags? Cheek. Cheesy nowhere romance? Ultra triple check.

*Big Brother - When I was a kid, I liked anything my brother liked. I admired the way he could draw so well, and I strived to become as talented as him. Sometimes I feel like he's the only one of my family members I have anything in common with.

*Hive - It's a hive. Get it? Anyway, this is symbolic of ALL my friends I've had throughout my life. My art and stories change depending on who I'm friends with, and how they draw and react to what I draw.

*Rusty - My dog, a 12-year old red merle Australian Shepherd. I couldn't have asked for a better dog. A huge influence on my life, art, and writing. Maybe I should have given him a bigger square?

*The Legend of Zelda - I chose the Ocarina of Time to represent the series as a whole because it's my favorite. I like how the series comes in many different high-quality flavors, is sometimes serious, but never, ever loses its bizarre sense of humor.

*The Lion King hyenas - These guys get a big picture for all they represent. First, there's Disney and all its products as a whole. Second, there's the Lion King, which I loved as a kid (now I think Beauty and the Beast is the best). Third, it was these hyenas which sparked my affection for real-life hyenas. Fourth, they've been a big influence on how I designed Demons in Slightly Damned (not necessarily in appearance).

Phew! All images (c) their respective owners and stuff.

I know what it's like to feel you have nothing in common with your family |D so I think it's cool that your brother was a kind of drawing role model for you.
