'The first wingbeat signals the start of lifeβs journey.'
Dragons are invariably shown as solitary and frequently engaged in combat, which is why I chose to paint a more intimate scne, but still one wrought with it's own drama and narratives.
The compositional structure is a strong triangular form, drawing the viewer to the parents head, accentuated by the positioning of the sun and rim light. Overlaid this is a sinuous 'S' which helps with creating energy and movement.

Finally, a piece of dragons that isn't all violent or scary. I see dragons as wise creatures, not as monsters that attack anything on site (here's lookin' at you, SKYRIM). So thanks for this. I like, as you say, the "intimacy" of this. Dragons are parents, too!

Absolutely gorgeous! And thank you for sharing your reasons for the composition, it's always nice to know why you've chosen a particular angle/shape/colour.

Sweet! Love the agile movement of the dragon's body. You don't see that very often in traditional dragon art like this. Good flow, and love the vivid color!

This is just really beautiful.
I like it. I imagine a dragon mother teaching her children how to fly.
You don't think they are that big, until you see one of them using a tower as a personal chair.
