PFF, not that Estell's current tower is a temple for the elder gods and his horrifying flight experience comes from trying to ride a flying manta ray.

The interests of both rider and mount, as they happen to work in the same field.

Yeeeah, about that...

Watch me be unconsciously racist towards amureys, I know he's as sentient as his rider but the way I phrase stuff shows some part of me still thinks of mounts as different from riders.

PFFF. It's not that racist (or speciecist, actually), considering there are amureys that make a living by transporting humans and the "interest" could also be reading the map specifically, which is easier for the one not busy flying and paying attention to the surroundings.

True, I was also thinking of keeping the map steady, but that too is in the amurey's interest. And equality has become a thing of mine, also in the form of sniffing out the spots where I don't apply it as it should be myself, just as much in this kind of situation as the classic gender thing and flavours of that.
