Can I hug you? I thought I alone on this, sure I like some shows but I feel like I have to force myself to watch it although that's kinda how I am with any show or movie in live action or animated and any anime pics I do fav it's mostly just for a reference or a paring or whatever heck I barley know any of the names from an anime pic I just think "those two look cute together" or "that's how that hairstyle looks".
But my biggest issue is when someone say they're not that into anime someone else will react in shock and say you should watch more or give you recommendations and say things like "if you were an anime fan" ahh! Forcing something you like on someone else just makes it less appealing to me.

Just because someone does not understand or share the same viewpoints or interests as you does not give you a right to bash on them. And you are hearing this from a fellow Otaku, who found this extremely funny because I can totally agree that it was the way I viewed anime when I was younger.

Don't worry
There are some titles out there that are easy for beginners or not-so-enthralled viewers to watch.
You should also look into some english dubs. Granted, most aren't that great, but there others with fantastic english voice acting, plus some dubs that do the favor of not trying to over-dramatize certain events or sequences. Which'll happen a lot in most titles.

I know that feeling... I had to watch the full first season of one anime three times until I finally memorized the protagonist's name, and five times in total until I got the other important characters' names right. And the rest I didn't even bother to learn -.-
