Description Featured in Fantastic Friday Features (9-25-2015) .

Back in July piethein21 sounded the call for rings2/julian with Searching , and I set to work.  However, I couldn't figure out how to actually fill the rings, so I experimented with linked transforms instead.

I'm quite proud of the texture in this one, though it was a complete accident.

An Apophysis 7x fractal.  As with all my fractals, I highly recommend you zoom in for the best viewing experience.

Looks like a ray.

I suppose it does a bit, actually!  I hadn't noticed that before.

Lovely simplicity! The texturing adds an excellently subtle detail to the entire piece. Great job!

the texture is indeed amazing
you can put anything in the rings as long as you make it torus shaped (which can be done by adding linked xform julian).
For the rings2 you could use (without breaking the structure) things that will preserve the disc form (examples are whorl, loonie). Whenever you decide to use something else you can make a shared linked xform so that the boundaries move along (for example waves2). like in piethein21.deviantart.com/art/… (is lazysusan instead of rings2 but works basically the same)

Thanks for the tips!  I'll definitely try them.  This isn't anything nearly that sophisticated...I didn't really have any idea what I was doing.  The Xaos here is a convoluted mess involving julian, rings2, and a third transform with spherical = 10000.
