Description
These are a bit complicated, drawing inspiration from a LOT of sources. They're mostly based on something I read about heterochromic dogs being said in some culture (I forget which, unfortunately) to see the spirit world with one eye and our world with another. They're also based on a Greek philosopher named Diogenes of Sinope, who often was compared (even by himself) to a dog, and was one of the founders of Cynicism (which derives from the Ancient Greek word for dog). Then they're based on a variety of ghost dogs in a variety of cultures, Native American legends of coyotes, and a lot more.

The blue eye of a Cynope sees our world, while the red eye sees the spirit world. In ancient times they were often kept as pets by sages, soothsayers, fortunetellers, and priests, as they would assist them in communicating with spirits.

Cynope commune with ancient spirits to learn the secrets of the spirit world, passing this knowledge on to their trainers. They are immensely loyal, and when their trainer dies will follow that trainer into the spirit world, not letting even death come between the two of them.
