Description
Updated 24 NOV 14The Osprey with the blue, red, and white colors of the Orphean ISL Patrol. The top three images show the Osprey with its wings folded for storage on a crowded tarmac and six R-40 Stinger antiship missiles slung on hardpoints under the wings. The lower two images show the Osprey with wings in flight configuration, the missiles, and twin laser cannon turrets extended. Β I changed the wing configuration not just to accommodate the folding, but also to make them larger to support a larger VTOL turbofan engine, and added a compressor fan wheel that is visible through the inlet louvers.

...that actually look like lasers. I'm on a one man crusade against decades of damage done by George Lucas and ILM to the collective imagination.

Reminds me of the Sky-whale next generation commercial plane design I had been reading about lately.Β

Hmm; I hereby dub thee the Prettyship! Though it doesn't look much likeΒ aspacecraft; rather a suborbital interceptor. Is that accurate?

The setting in which the Osprey operates is a soft sci-fi setting, with antigravity and the like, so until I add the RCS thruster ports, such questions are inevitable. Β The craft was intended to operate in space where streamlining and wings don't matter, and within the atmospheres of a variety of planetary types, where wings and even a boat hull for water landings do matter.

Y'know, on second glance it bears a fairly strong resemblence to the Pokemon Kyogre, or maybe it's just that I always thought Kyogre looked like a flying whale.

I was going for something a little whale-ish with this, so mission accomplished!
