Description

It’s the dead of night in the city of Pittsburgh, PA. The Batman, the dark defender of the city, was on the trail of Jack Ryder, a news broadcaster who was recently kidnapped from his apartment a few nights ago. As he lept from roof to roof and glided on his cape, Batman heard a distressing call from the shadows of the alley. A family of three was cornered by several criminals mugging them and holding them at knife point. Batman halted his investigation to fly down and save the family. He beat down two of the muggers and scared away the other two, but one of them pulled a gun out on the vigilante and the victims. That’s when a projectile flew through the shadows and knocked the gun out of the mugger’s hand, giving Batman a chance to knock him out. The family ran for it when it was over. Batman noticed a familiar shape atop the roof above the alley. He grappled atop and met with a familiar face. It was Tim Drake, who was formerly the Ravager, a costumed mercenary who worked for The Cult of Algol. The teenaged enforcer moved to Pittsburgh about a month ago, and he claims now to Batman that he’s turned over a new leaf after the events of the global pandemic Algol created to resurrect their dark god Uxas. After the retirement of Batman’s partner Robin, Tim decided to become the new Robin in her honor. Batman gave Tim a chance to prove himself, and let him in on the Jack Ryder case. They followed the only clue to the investigation, being a chemical signature found in the apartment. At the end of this trail they were following, Batman and Robin found an abandoned apartment complex that was going to be torn down, and the chemical trail led within. Inside, the two vigilantes searched for a while until an entity attacked from out of the shadows. It was none other than Sondra Fuller, alias Clayface, a metahuman who possesses a body of a living ooze that can shapeshift. After fighting her to a standstill using cryogenic bombs provided by Batman, both of the vigilantes were able to talk Sondra down. They explained what was happening and that Jack Ryder was kidnapped recently. Sondra claimed that she wasn’t responsible, and that there is the possibility that a black market scientist named Dr. Achilles Milo, whom she had heisted chemicals for in the past would still have a sample of her clay body to plant at the scene of Ryder's kidnapping. Sondra explained that she had worked with Milo until she learned that he was trying to recreate her condition for himself, so she smashed his lab to prevent it. He went dark after. Robin hypothesized that maybe Milo kidnapped Jack and tried to frame Sondra. Batman agreed and asked Sondra to help out, since she knows Milo better then the two of them. Sondra agreed. Using Batman’s portable Batcomputer, the three calculated the last known positions of Achilles Milo and set up a triangulated investigation area to find where he could be held up now. In the end, the three found Dr. Milo’s secret lab and confronted him about Jack Ryder’s kidnapping. Milo revealed that he did indeed kidnapped Ryder… and then he revealed what he did to Ryder. Jack emerged from the shadows, grinning and cackling madly. His skin is all yellow and his hair is green, and two spiked, mechanical tendrils were emerging from his forearms. Calling himself The Creeper, Jack was brainwashed and mutated by Dr. Milo and he attacked our three heroes. He first swiped at Clayface, and a self-generating molecular poison in his talons and in his tendrils began destabilizing Clayface’s molecular structure, and she could not hold her shape. As Milo escaped, Creeper fought Batman and Robin as they tried to reason with him. In the end, a slash from Creeper’s talons against a computer caused a fire to break out and the secret facility began exploding. Batman, Robin, and Clayface (who managed to resolidify) escaped the blast, but Creeper escaped into the city. When the three were at a safe distance from the fire and the chaos, Batman suggested to Clayface that she turned herself into the police. Sondra collapsed from weakness and despair, and then told them how horrible it is to be already trapped in a prison that is her own body. Robin convinced Batman that there might be a better way, since someone like her needs someoneelse in her corner… A few days later, at the local high school, Tim Drake introduced “his cousin Annie” to his girlfriend Cassandra Kane, the former Robin and cousin of Bruce Wayne (the Batman’s true identity), and Cassandra’s friends Stephanie Brown and Carrie Kelly. Tim pulled Cassie aside and revealed that Annie is actually Sondra Fuller in a new guise, wanting a new lease on life. Cassie agreed to this. And as for Achilles Milo, in his new lab, he observed his latest work and said it will soon be time to bring it to fruition…

Notes:

* Sondra, long after learning about Cassie’s identity of The Robin, deduced that her cousin Bruce is Batman.

* Tim Drake’s Robin costume is his retooled and repainted Ravager armor.

* Sondra’s new alter ego of “Annie” is based a Clayface story from on Batman: TAS.
