Description
Another request for a friend. I love the idea of forgotten robots - a marker of the world changing, over such a long time that makes our lifetimes seem astoundingly short.Related content

Yeh, I've always been a fan of the idea! There's a great Luke Vibert video for 'Shadows' that'd you'd probably dig - [link]
Love to see where the inspiration leads you...

Awesome, I love Giant Robots! They rule, even when they're sleeping. On an entirely different and random side note, my Pokemon obsessed son thought the robots knees popping out of the water were pokeballs. Either way, we both loved the piece. LOL

Yep, I love that story & film! I even got to do a assignment on it in my illustration class back in the day, that was great fun. Cheers!

I like it!
Advanced critique huh?
First of all I see nothing wrong myself, so I'd say this is a sufficiently good piece as it is.
What you might do to make it better though, is to play more with the idea of flora growing on him (like that tree on his knee). Since he's an aged artifacts, I thought it'd be more fitting to have more scratches, rust and other signs of age. Like maybe moss, and maybe coral.

that's fair enough. this definitly won't be the last time I toy withthis kind of subject, so next time I'll take the weathering a lot further. cheers!

This is really cool he looks like he's been there for a long while. Overgrown and derelict things are really cool because the evoke so many questions.

exactly! that's exactly the reason I love this kind of stuff - it makes the mind go ballistic, wondering how this came to be, what civilisation or whatever this belonged to, why is it gone now, all that stuff. cheers

One of my favourite animated films is Castle in the sky and one of my favourite parts is when they are walking through the castle grounds and you can see the sunken city's and overgrown robots and the like.

Such a brilliant film! It's especially sad when you can see the robots that have given up and been ensnared by all the plants. There's a great music video for Wagon Christ's 'Shadows' that could have easily been an extra scene in Laputa - it's all Victorian picnickers enjoying the sun in amongst the ruins of giant robots from a long ago war... I get reaally excited every time I see the video

Great work man, may I ask how did you worked with the lines? They allways seem to be my problem, my lines tend to change its stroke and I never get to do a full circle form like that....

redkidOne In reply to EmpCharles [2007-01-29 08:48:41 +0000 UTC]
I always think my curves are pretty rough, really - I should get some guides or something... but basically, I sketch everything up in red pencil first (so that it's easy to remove in Photoshop) and get the shapes right, then go over it in ink - a thin line first, and then fatten it up where I need it.
