Description I've had a few emails now about how I take my photos. Now, I'm not a photography expert. I mean, I'm really, really, really not a photography expert. I don't even know what apeture means, and my camera is a point-and-shoot model. The things I do know, I've learnt from reading how-to's on the 'net, and so I thought I'd share with you the number one thing that I use when I take photos:

My light box.

Those things can be expensive (you're looking at about $100-$300 dollars for a store-bought one), so I decided to make my own. Basically it's just a box that you put your object into, shine light at it, and snap away. Couldn't be easier, right? And the best thing about my light box is it costs less than $15!

So this is my very first tutorial, and I hope you find it useful (and comprehensible! I worry about how readable the explanation cards are - you'll have to give me some feedback on that, since this is the first tutorial I've ever made, I'm fairly new to the process.)

This is an excellent tutorial. The daylight is never the same twice and my camera isn't a quality kind but with this DYI lightbox, you've helped me fix this problem. Thank you so much!

Hehe isn't it always the way? You find what you need (or could have used) just after you've finished what you're working on! It's the same with me and finding the perfect fabric... a week after I've finished my project.

Glad you like the tute!

This is AWESOME! Love it. If you cut out the sides of it, cover the wholes with the white paper and put a light source on each side, it gives a lot more filler light with less shadow. Let me know if you try it!

whats a lighht box

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

restlesswillow In reply to sukichan128 [2009-03-28 23:05:33 +0000 UTC]

It's a box where the inside is a bright, clean white, and you put your product inside and then shine a light into the box and take a photo. It's perfect for when the weather outside is really dismal and you have no natura light to take photos.

I know! It's the coolest thing ever, am I right? It's a baby chainsaw! I couldn't resist stealing the box when I saw it, if only I could have got the chainsaw it once held as well.
