"Keep that rotten hedgehog out of here..."

Zenith glanced helpessly at his brother. Only moments after Nadir, Grace, and their newborn baby girl Naomi returned to their hospital room, Shadow, the Dark Elemental had arrived to pay a visit.

Nadir however, wanted nothing to do with him. He knew why Shadow was really there.

"He's here to place a mark on my daughter, saying she'll someday have to be a part of this disastrous mess he and his buddy Arandor caused due to their foolishness. I said I would fight to avenge the treatment of my father and mother, but Grace, and my daughter, will have nothing to do with it," Nadir grumbled, trying to keep his voice down as he cradled his daughter in his arms.

"I can't get rid of him Nadir," Zenith replied, "Shadow isn't going to go away."

Nadir was silent. He gazed at baby Naomi as he rocked her gently. For the past five months he anxiously awaited her birth. He was desperate to meet this new part of himself, and already he was being bombarded with thoughts of her being put in harm's way.

He had fought with both UnLight and UnDark several times before. He had gotten badly injured. He knew what Mukot had done to his parents.

He would fight, but Naomi would never fight.

"Damn Shadow," Nadir whispered, "He's like the angel of death come to steal her away from me. Forget his talk of all hands having to come together. Naomi has done nothing to this Dark Heathen, so she should not have to participate in these foolish games."

"It is not a game," Shadow said as he entered the room. He spoke softly, none of them wanting to disturb Grace as she tried to recover. "Mukot will place a target on you, as well as Grace and Naomi, for the more you try to resist him, the more eager he will be to persecute you for it. You cannot show him that weakness Nadir; you will bring your little girl more harm than good. The only way you can protect her is to teach her to follow in your footsteps."

"Hell with this!" Nadir cried.

Baby Naomi squirmed in his arms, whimpering a bit, while Grace shifted in bed, a painful frown on her face as she rested in a light sleep, when Nadir cried out. Upset, Nadir placed Naomi in her cradle. He then charged up to Shadow, pushing the Dark Elemental into the hallway outside, while Zenith looked on, horrified at the site.

"Damn you to hell Shadow, and damn your stupid friend Arandor for his lust and ignorance!" Nadir shouted.

Shadow glared at Nadir, but this time, the new father did not back down. "Damning Arandor for his love for Lady Mistukai is like damning your parents for loving you and your brother Nadir. You are hybrids, and though his children were full echidnas by blood, by heart, they are no different than you, for their father was not born an echidna, but rather a hedgehog. Would you damn him and your parents for this kind of love?" Shadow asked.

A low growl escaped Nadir. Zenith came up behind him.

"Nadir, come on. You're tired. Go in there and rest with Grace and Naomi." Zenith said, putting his arm around his twin's shoulder.

Nadir glanced at Zenith, unwilling to move. Looking back to Shadow he said, "Send Mukot and all of hell after me if you'd like. Grace and little Naomi will have no part in this, at all. These Wars of Light and Darkness will not see their participation, and if you dare bring up the subject again, not even for my parents will I fight. If Mukot would waste his time on such helpless victims of your treachery, then I'd beg with him to focus on the true evil at work here."

He turned to leave; Shadow looked on.

"You'd go to his side if you had the chance, if only your daughter and wife were spared? Do you understand what you're saying? You'd take a pact with the devil just to buy yourself falsefied peace? Take rest Nadir; I hope you haven't forgotten what he did to you. It is he, and he alone, that is responsible for all of your pain. Don't let him cause you anymore suffering," Shadow said.

Nadir stopped, but did not turn around.

"No part in this...," was all he said in responce.

Zenith watched as Nadir walked back into the room, closing the door behind him. He hung his head. He understood Nadir's pain, but at the same time, Zenith understood that one day their children would have to fight. He watched as Halo, within weeks of delivering their own child, stood talking with a friend not far away from them.

"I don't want my daughter to have to fight either, but if it's a choice between fighting or dying, what can be done?" Zenith whispered to himself.

Shadow walked up to Zenith and said, "You are open and trusting Zenith; you inherited your mother's eagerness to accept change. Nadir...he's always needed guidance, but what he needs now is to be left alone. We are in the middle of an extended peace. Mukot will not have recovered enough to fight us for many more years."

He paused, then looked to the closed door before them. A fragile smile graced Shadow's face. He understood Nadir's pain exactly, for not so long ago, it was Shadow that welcomed a daughter into the world. He held the same thoughts that Nadir did for awhile, but was silenced when he remembered something simple.

The children of his best friend Arandor had been fighting Mukot for centuries, and they still were. Somehow it would always touch them, and to try and run away from it wouldn't solve the problem.

He understood Nadir's motivation.

Shaking his head, he laughed softly and said, "Take some rest Zenith. Nadir will be alright. He's feeling nothing different than what any new father does."

"All he wants is to make sure his daughter never suffers. He never wants her to be afflicted by the woes that sought to destroy him. She healed his heart, and now he'll do whatever he has to to protect hers. Soon he'll understand, that the best way he can protect her, is to teach her to face the madness before her, and conquer it with the same determination and grace that her father did, just as he'll always protect her, until the day he dies."

I wanted to draw a picture of Nadir, Grace, and their baby girl Naomi. And boy do I love this picture <3

Naomi is obviously the Anti-Jeremy. I've decided that the Anti-Kids will be opposing genders. Anti-Zachary for example will be female, Zenith and Halo's daughter, Little Neferine, named for her grandmother.

I drew Grace here with her hair down.

Nadir looks a lot better here than in his Anthro picture. The tear on his right ear is where it needs to be. That angry look on his face is that look of, "You touch them and you'll die." He just doesn't want Grace and Naomi to be bothered by this ongoing war, and feels like Shadow is only around to try and drag them into it.

In actuality Shadow was just coming to welcome the birth of a friend's child. Many of the children are born in the several years of peace after this major conflict, most likely the second war, and even Shadow's daughter Amberly has been born at this point.

Yeah, another tidbit. Aranelion's son Zachary is not much older than Elianaron's son Jeremy. For their Anti-forms, this is flip-flopped. Nadir's daughter Naomi will be a little bit older than Zenith's daughter Little Neferine.

But yes, I had this idea for a picture and love how it came out ^^

No crits. I can't see much wrong with this picture anyway XD Except for maybe the hand Nadir has on Grace's arm, but then again I drew that in at the last minute.

Poor Nadir. You all thought he was this nasty and caloused guy, and he turns out to be a guy with a loving heart that wants to grow.

All he wants is a better life for his daughter; a life that isn't a tragic story like the one he and his twin brother lived. There's no need to worry, because no matter what, Nadir will do what is right.

..I love how Nadir and Naomi begin with the same sound X3 So sweet ^^ Maybe that's why Grace chose that name
