Description Another picture made from pose reference done by SenshiStock I love her stock so much I've got others I want to use as well <3

The original is here: fav.me/da8qkf8

This one grabbed my attention immediately. I knew I wanted to use it, but the right idea didn't come to me until last week and this was the result.  The sketch was done pretty quickly; generally if I've got a reference sketches are not only quick but they come out amazing.  This is why I'm trying to use them in between free handing.  It's gonna be hard learning but I'm determined to improve my anatomy.

Another thing referenced was the rifle on her back.  I bought a rifle key chain while I was in Scotland and pretty much copied it XD I didn't trace or anything but I did reference it.  Otherwise I fail at drawing firearms.

The story here is Leslie Paylor has promised Luke she would be his guardian.  This is one of the AUs where Luke is kinda on a very bad path and tends to get extremely depressed and lacks any sort of hope but forges on anyway, and one of the few bright spots left is Leslie's determination to keep him safe.  In this case it's purely platonic.  He's her hero and since he saved her, she's determined to do the same.

However...as we see here, she has failed.  Luke's gone, and the only thing left are his dog tags, glimmering on a burning battlefield, laying in a pool of presumably his own blood.  She breaks down, herself covered in blood and wounds, and just lets the tears flow.  She feels guilty for the rest of her life, even as she meets Azrael and their love moves on.  She never forgives herself for giving Luke hope and then letting him down.

"I was too young.  I joined the platoon as an act of desperation.  They should have laughed and turned me away.  Luke didn't.  He accepted me.  Even as his own heart was burdened with the weight of his miseries, he offered his shoulder to balance mine.  I healed, and it was only when I started to feel better that I realized just how much pain he was in.  I promised to repay his steadiness, his support, his comfort, with my own.  He said one day I'd find love again.  I said the same of him.  He just...smiled.  'Nothing is certain,' he would say.  I asked, 'If you can promise it to me then why can't I promise it to you?' 'Because, I won't let anyone break your wings.  Nothing can bring you down again.'  Nothing broke my wings, but when I found those tags, shining under the burning skies, with smoke smouldering in my lungs and blood burning into my skin, I still crashed to the ground.  The warmth carried me skyward again, and I continued to fly, but only because it was the only way I could ever say I was sorry to him, and even hope to make any sense out of his loss.  The price of failure is something I'll never be able to repay or let go of; the world has lost that handsome smile, that warm and gentle heart...the world has lost him.  The burden is mine alone.  I understand now why he carried so much heartache.  That's just something you'll never, ever be able to resolve or soothe away.  It's part of you forever, as permanent as the hole that is left in your heart when they're taken away."

I could imagine her telling that story to Azrael, even her children.  Ugh
Honestly this probably something better posted around Veteran's Day, because it can apply to that entire concept.  Mourning the fallen.  The stock reference was called "For The Lost" and I feel the pose really represents that anguish so well.  It was just perfect for Leslie Paylor here.

As for the artwork once the lineart and flat color were done I started toying with the background.  I experimented and played around and got something that looked just amazing, and that's when this picture really took off.  I came up with new brush settings for the stars, the blood textures, and used the same brush I came up with when I painted Luke's shirt in my last picture.  The stars in the sky came from a flare fired off I imagine.  There's embers and smaller sparks swirling around and there's fire all around her, the grass burnt and the ground smouldering.  It's like hell on earth.  The one thing breaking it all up is this image of her knelt on the ground, tears falling from her eyes after she found all that was left of her hero, her promise completely shattered, like her heart.

I have to say I love her hand on the ground.  I've found that drawing fingernails in now helps me better shape the fingers, which is a plus.  I'm still practicing with folds in clothing.  I love how well her camouflage blends in with the ground.  The background and just the entire setting is just beautiful, I can't stop looking at it XD I really have to learn how to remember how I do these so I can replicate them.  The only thing that mildly bothers me are the dog tags on the ground, well, the chain.  Getting each of those little balls to look identical is impossible, but I blame how they're bunched up, the fact that some are covered in blood, and the flickering light sources.

Yeah...as for light sources I'm sure my sourcing is far from perfect, but I think it looks pretty good considering.  I'm still so proud of this picture <33  I even love how her hair came out and that was the last thing I did almost, I was that worried about it XD

And yeah I'll try and draw people besides Luke and Leslie Paylor I just...I think she's become my main girl and Luke's my baby so I can't help it XP Her design especially is so simplistic but it works so well so yeah <3

Leslie Paylor belongs to me.

The thumbnail on this pic really stuck out to me, so I had to click it. This piece in general kind of sticks out from the rest of your pics (I mean this in a good way), so to me it creates this element of surprise, which from an artistic point is good since it shows a willingness to try something new.

Also, with a pic like this, it tells a story without words, which I find hard to do at times, but you did a good job here! The dark colors engulfing Leslie and the pose help to create this overwhelming sense of grief and despair, like she's lost in the moment of finding the dog tags and has lost awareness of her surroundings. I'm not sure how to really explain it well.

I love the shading on this, and the glow from the fire. The sparkly embers flying around her are also a nice touch. The details really add up! ^_^

The background of this one really just painted itself.  I started with nothing and just experimented and after a bit I looked at it and was completely shocked This will always be one of my favorites.

And no worries I understand completely! Sort of like an out of body experience, one of those times where time slows down.  That's a good way of describing it I do absolutely love this picture and I really appreciate the comment! ^^

The piece as a whole blew my mind.
You hit a home-run on the surroundings of Luke, really well detailed with fires and spiraling of emotions coming from the picture.

The ironic thing is the background and everything was kind of a shot in the dark XD I like going with sunsets, sunrises, the whole burning sky thing, so when it turned into this I was quite presently surprised! Thanks a bunch!!

I come up with really emotional stuff XD Thankfully not everything I draw is like that.  It is an AU it's not the main story I follow just more of a "what if" scenario.
