Sorry for the wait everyone! Had a really crazy week to two weeks, however long since the last page lol

Page three introduces us to more of the main characters. Here we see Akeme first encountering and getting to know Deannalee's family, her father, Renaldo, and her mother, Casselina. Deannalee is an only child, which...probably won't be explained in the comic so I'll say it here.

Casselina's mother had a difficult time having children. After Casselina was born her mother's second child was a miscarriage, and she became obsessed with having another baby out of her grief for the second one, so much so she hardly talked to or acknowledge little Casselina. When her mother finally did conceive another baby, she died giving birth to it, Casselina's little brother. Sadly, her little brother died when he was very young. All of this trauma just turned Casselina off from having more than one child. In fact, the only way she would have had more than one was if her first child was a boy and she wanted to try having a daughter. However, since a boy can be the Guardian, she might have just stopped at the first baby. That's how traumatic what happened to her mother became. The idea of the risk of having more children just brought up bad memories.

However, Casselina does love Deannalee. Keep this in mind, it will become important later, how much she does love her daughter.

Renaldo was the kind of guy who would have loved more children, but never pushes the issue out of love for Casselina, and remembering how hard it was for her growing up. So instead, he pours all of his love into Deannalee, her being the apple of his eye. The father and daughter will always be very close.

Another person Akeme gets to know is Lily Gray. She lives in a village of bats that is further in the island. So many years after Ilyamay's people raise Spirit Island into the sky, a colony of bats come to live there. By then, the echidnas there have forgotten the bad memories associated with bats, who killed their first queen, Mitsukai, and so they allow them to settle there. Lily and Deannalee become friends from a very young age, and Lily is Deannalee's best friend, even closer than any of her friends in the echidna village.

Something else Akeme learns when Deannalee turns seven, is that she, as the daughter of the Guardian, will not only be the leader of the village, but she also has in her blood the power to wield their special treasure, the Master Jewel. Yes for people who haven't followed WoLaD the Master Jewel was created by the same echidna that created the Master Emerald. The Jewel was made first, and is called the Jewel because it is a gem like no other. You can't see it here since I can't color that vividly, although Gem made it look even more beautiful, but the light within it swirls in different colors like liquid, pink, purple, red, orange, with flecks of gold. The Master Emerald, though it has the same amount of power, was made much simpler, since the Jewel took way too much power to create.

So this page basically introduces you to Deannalee's family, her best friend, and what her destiny is.

This is the last page with little Dee, although she'll be younger in it still. It'll follow her starting to grow up, and we'll see things begin to change. An innocent little girl becoming a fiery teenager; darkness creeping into the island and taking root towards destruction, and our lingering spirit, his reasons for staying here changing from wanting to protect a little girl from harm, to feeling something quite deep for her as she grows into a young woman.

Again sorry this page took so long! Obviously it needed a lot of work. Linework, coloring...the works. Gem got the shading done way faster in comparison XD We had a rough week or so, so that's part of it. I hope the text can be read okay. I'm looking at it being zoomed out to 25% and I can read it so I hope the same goes for all of you lol

Again I did all of the flat coloring and the background work along with the sketch and line art. The Master Jewel I colored fully as well, but Gem added some embellishments to it to really make it pop, plus she did all of the shading and light highlighting. I also did the eyes in my signature style.

Only a few minor complaints here and there...Casselina's body and arm in the lower left panel are my main gripes. I just couldn't get them to look right. Meanwhile I'm having fun painting those simplistic backgrounds lol Jungle bushes, mountains and flowers and such.
