Description
Yes, I know she's actually a lizard, but by the time I realized that I had already gotten way too attached to calling her "Science Dinosaur".I feel like Alphys doesn't get enough love. I know she's awkward, but I think that's why I like her; she's relatable. (I'm a short, glasses-wearing nerd who decorates her room with anime posters, has social anxiety, and hates having to actually phone people, so yeah, Alphys is basically me. )
I keep changing up the way I colour my drawings. Just trying to decide on something I like... I'll get there eventually!
Made in Autodesk Sketchbook.

Aww, your Alphys is so good! I'm totally with you, she gets way to little love from the fandom. I think there is at least a little bit of Alphys in everyone of us.

Thank you so much! And yeah, Alphys really is incredibly relatable for a cartoon lizard.

You're welcome Toby did something really gorgeous when he came up with her character. In my opinion, she feels like the most real character and I also relate myself to her very much. Sometimes it feels like she's my soul-sister.

I agree, I think she's easily one of the most realistic characters in the game. Especially when she starts talking about her insecurities and self-doubts... It just feels like there's some real emotion behind it.

True story. I never get why so many people in the fandom don't like her. I guess everyone of us did at least something in our lives they are not proud of.

EXACTLY. And it's not like Alphys is the only character in the game who made some morally questionable decisions. I mean, a lot of the characters straight-up try to MURDER you, and yet Alphys, one of the only characters who never fights anyone, is somehow the terrible person.

To be honest, all characters made questionable decisions. Just take a look at Toriel. Yeah, even sweet goat mom is able to accidentally kill you, even if she don't want to. And Papyrus strikes you down to near death almost five times before he say that he doesn't want to fight such a weak opponent (that happened to me while I struggled with this battle and I was flabbergasted about this). And don't get me started about Undyne, who killed me several times.
I admit that Alphys' way of being important for Frisk by conspiring with Mettaton is not the best way, but at least she didn't do anything worse than all of the other characters. I guess most people blame her for being annoying due to her constant Undernet updates in Hotland, but these made me actually laugh. That was so funny^^ And after the True lab is discovered some people also blame her for hiding the truth about the Amalgamates. But to be honest, I really doubt that anyone of those people who berate her for that would actually tell the truth if they were in her shoes and as insecure and self-doubting as she appears to be.

That's funny, I was just thinking about Toriel. "I must protect you!" *Throws fireballs at child to prevent them from leaving.*
And yeah, sending your robot friend out to torment a child because "I wanna be an adventure hero!" is not the greatest plan. And it is unfortunate that Alphys kept the amalgamates hidden for so long, but given the circumstances, it's hard to be angry at her for being scared to tell people... (I can't really justify the "hero" thing, that was just a bad decision, but at least she never really intended to hurt you: that's something that can't be said for everyone.)
Her Undernet updates never annoyed me too much either, I just found them funny.

"Prove to me you're strong enough to survive!" BOOM! Frisk is fried Well, at least after that she can be sure that the human stays with her forever. Ah, sorry for my humour...^^'
I really like how Alphys is in my opinion the character undergoing the most changes based on the players decisions. I mean, in some endings it's heavily hinted she commits suicide, in the pacifist one she unburdens her mind of all the lies and secrets she kept in her and in the near-genocide route she turns out to be the queen and acts as a person of authority. That is pretty cool^^
Her Undernet activity reminded me of some friends I had on Facebook years ago, who were posting everything. "Wohoo, I was on the toilet", "wohoo, I eat cookies", "wohoo, I saw a bird outside." You know, everything

Hey, no need to apologize, that was funny! (I mean, it was dark, but it was still funny.)
I've heard of that ending where Alphys becomes Queen. Do you know how to get it? My guess would be that you'd need to defeat Mettaton NEO without killing everyone in Hotland. Is that it?

I'm glad you liked that joke. And yep, I really dig dark humour It's hard to be funny in a foreign language.
You can achieve this ending by starting a genocide route but stop it in Hotland. So you have to get past Undyne the Undying, but not past Mettaton NEO. It's a pretty sad ending... I never have the heart to be so mean.

You know, that's interesting: I never thought about how it might be difficult to translate humor into a different language. Makes sense, though. Sadly, I only speak English, so I've never even had to consider these sort of things.
Oh, so you just don't kill anyone in Hotland? Huh, I would have thought that'd make Mettaton the king... Interesting! But yeah, I'm sure it's an absolutely depressing ending. I did a genocide run once. It was horrible from beginning to end. (Well, fighting Sans was... "fun".)

I was never able to do a Genocide run, I love the characters just too much (it also spoils your pacifist ending, though). Well, that is one reason. The other is that I suck at avoiding attacks that Undyne the Undying and Sans would kill me for the rest of my entire life Well, I can imagine Sans gave you a "bad time"^^
My guess is that Mettaton will be king after you kill Toriel, Papyrus and Undyne, but I'm not sure. Probably he'll make a game show out of his regency. I wonder what happens to Alphys in this path...
Humour is extremely difficult to translate because most puns won't work (that's the reason why I sometimes had a hard time to understand Sans' puns ). I'm native German so English is my second language. In Germany we are used to learn it since elementary school and I spent a year in Sweden studying, so this improved my English a lot. Regardless, I struggle with syntax and grammar
I hope I'm at least understandable - that's the most important thing.

Yeah, I play Undertale on the Nintendo Switch, so basically I use my main user account for playing pacifist, but I created an extra account to try a genocide run, just so it wouldn't permanently ruin the pacifist ending for me. (Yeah, this is definitely cheating, I know...) Sans certainly did give me a bad time! I wasn't really keeping track, but if I had to guess, I'd say it was a collective 7 or 8 hours worth of attempts. Undyne the Undying isn't nearly as hard, but I'm pretty sure she still took me a solid hour, at the very least. (You know who else was ridiculously frustrating for me, even though they shouldn't have been? Muffet! I was stuck on her for SO LONG the first time I played the game.)
I got the "Mettaton becomes King" ending one time, and yes, I think you're right about who needs to be killed. This ending is... not great for Alphys. Mettaton talks about how she's "disappeared", and since Undyne is dead, you can kind of guess what that implies... From what I recall, King Mettaton just ignores all the country's social and economic issues and throws glitter on everything. I don't know what else I expected.
Whoa, I never thought about how Sans's puns would be tough to translate... I don't know why that never occurred to me! Let me just say that your English is actually very good, so no worries! (I don't think I would have realized it was your second language if you hadn't said so!)

Heh, good to hear my grammar and syntax are not that bad (I love this word - syntax. It sounds so... spicy. Yeah, I'm weird ). When you notice some mistakes, I would be glad if you can correct me as I'm not able to see those mistakes myself
Some of Sans' puns I translated into german and then searched for a word similar to that he used in his pun. A ton of work, but it pays.
That's funny, because I had nearly the same experience in Sweden. I wanted to order something to drink in swedish and was well prepared with my little sentence. After I ordered, the waitress smiled and asked: "Med is?" I was freaking out - medis, medis, is it something about medication or else? After she asked twice, I had to admit that I'm actually german and not swedish. "Oooh, you're from Germany! Your pronounciation is so good I didn't notice. So I can talk english!" Ah... I went to Sweden in order to study and learn swedish, but I only learned english Well, actually that's not that bad.
Yep, that does sound like Mettaton. Just let the world drown in pink glitter and silver sequins and nobody will ever see the drawbacks - he is a good TV star but I can guess that he fails at being an dependable ruler. Oh crap, poor Alphys. That sounds indeed like she committed suicide.
Haha, that's pretty clever to avoid the soulless pacifist ending - so "you're not above consequences" doesn't apply for you anymore, huh? Since I only have my computer, this is not an option for me Do you know the "dirty hacker"-ending? To my knowledge you can only access it by editing game files and save points. This would be also fun to achieve
Muffet? Oh, I didn't expect that. She was the one I got at the first try (it's easy to avoid attacks when you only have to press two buttons). You won't believe it, but one of my hardest fights was Toriel. Yep, Frisk-frying goat mommy. Even if she didn't kill me, my HP were around 3/20 after the first two turns. Avoiding these flames is pretty hard with a keyboard because inclined movements are not so easy. But because I died so often in random encounters (especially by Woshua), I got the Temmie armor for about... 1200G? I'm not sure about this but I got a huge discount. Selling Dog residues all over the place!

Well hey, English is pretty commonly spoken, so the fact that it's what you unintentionally learned might ultimately work in your favor! It's really cool to me that you can speak three languages. In Canada we take French classes, but they're only mandatory from Grade 4 to Grade 9, so in the end... I know very little French. It'd be great to actually learn another language one day...
Yeah, I'm a total cheater who's put herself above all consequences. (To be fair, though, I have played a post-pacifist run on the genocide account: it really does ruin the ending...) I had to look up the "dirty hacker" ending you mentioned. I love that Sans is aware and casually guilts you for messing with the game. To be honest though, even if I knew how to edit the game files, I'm not sure I'd want to; I'd be too afraid of accidentally messing something up and not being able to fix it!
Yeah, I don't know why Muffet was so challenging for me. Every run since my first one I've been able to beat her in one shot, so I have no idea what was messing me up. I know I've died to Woshua a few times, though. Somehow he's harder than he looks...
Oh my God... use the dog residue as a cash farm... How have I never thought of this?!

Well, actually just two languages, because my swedish is sparse (just knowing about pronounciation isn't enough for talking ). I could have learned French in school too, but I decided to rather go for Latin and Greek from 7th to 13th grade. This comes handy now with my job. You know, if you really want to learn another language, strive for it. As we Untertale-addicts all know, at the end there is Determination
I'm extremely bad at computer stuff and just act along the lines "never touch a running system". If I ever face PC problems, I'll call my brother and hope that he can help. There was one strange situation where help menues opened all over the place when I tried to type something. It turns out the my plate was the culprit - the whole time it pressed the control key on my keyboard without me noticing it. That's when my brother call me DAU, "Dümmster Anzunehmender User", translated into english it would mean "most stupid assumable user". And I have to admit that there is some truth behind his words
Which soulless pacifist ending did you play? The "stay at Toriels'" or the other? It's funny that when you play Undertale for the first time you rarely hit the requirements for the genocide path by accident as it requires some endurance to kill everyone in every area and there is no counter for the dead monsters in the Ruins. It's just like the game told you - curiosity over all morals.
The neutral endings are so interesting because you see the whole consequences of your acts and that is kind of cool.
Great, so I'm not the only one who died confronting Woshua. That makes me feel better
I also like how Toby is spoofing the RPG concept with the shops. Besides the Tem Shop there is no place where you can sell items - as the shop keepers tell you that they want to make money and don't want useless crap getting dusty in their shelves. Dog residues farming - it took me around one hour to send Temmie to college and another hour to collect enough money to buy the Tem armor. DeTemmienation intensifies.

Aww, sorry your brother's giving you a hard time! I also have a brother who's considerably better with tech than I am, so I get the feeling.
Uh, I think I've actually done both of the soulless endings. I did the "stay with Toriel" one first, but I assure you that whichever way you pick, they are both absolutely horrible ways to finish an otherwise adorable game. Which is exactly the point, I'm sure.
Oh my God, that shop thing made me laugh so hard the first time I tried to "sell". Like "Kid, what are you doing, this is a retail store, why would I want to buy your random junk?" It's so perfect, just imagine trying that in real life. Speaking of poking fun at RPGs, I absolutely LOVE the diary entries in Mettaton's house, and how Toby Fox came up with a ridiculous, in-universe reason why "reading" a book only gives you like a paragraph of text. ("I like to buy a new diary for every entry. I love to collect diaries." I LOVE IT.)

Haha, he's making so much fun of this whole RPG topic. If you want to play Undertale like a "normal" RPG, you'll soon be greeted by some weird stuff like these shop keepers (which actually would make absolutely sense in real life. Like going into a groceries store and trying to sell piles of broken wood, shabby fur shreds or rotten meat; I guess the cashiers would give you a "bad time" if you tried to do so ). Yep, this diaries thing is pretty fun - but it also fits Mettatons character very well. I can imagine him piling all these diaries up and feeling absolutely famous about how much he has to tell. Ooooh yes!
The second soulless pacifist ending is that with this photo where all faces except Chara's were crossed out, isn't it? I saw that on Youtube and it gave me the creeps. That makes you feel bad even if you haven't done the genocide run. Well, Toby made sure that "curiosity over all your morals" came with some consequences
Well, no worries about my brother, we're on good terms. He just enjoy making fun about my lack of tech knowledge and sometimes he says that I would make a superior saboteur, because tech stuff is used to go nuts when I'm around I inherited that from my father - one time the phone rang and he was going to pick it up. It rang and rang and my mother and I shouted "press the green button!" He came to us with a look of absolute despair on his face: "Where's the green button?!" Turned out, he tried to pick up the remote control
Heh, seems like we have similar skills regarding tech stuff^^
